So I do sort of understand if parents do this because I’ve seen the opposite fail badly. Of course cursing at them is wrong, but when it comes to spanking I don’t think there’s an easy answer one way or another.

My wife and I have raised 2 daughters, and not once did we find it necessary to resort to corporal punishment. I am very proud of how they both turned out, and consider myself a better person for their being in my life.
It’s really about establishing respect. I grew up in a home with a modern lecturing mother and an old-fashioned spanking grandma. Since they both taught me to respect my elders and behave, I never wanted a spanking or a lecture.
