I think I’m going to like this story!

Wait – yesterday he was George Tarawa (like the Pacific island) now it’s Tawara? What gives?

George has the shakes; what’s up with that?

Lucky for Tracy that George and Brad are in town. The memories must be particularly unpleasant for George, judging from his visible reaction. But he appears to be significantly younger than Sweatbox, so I’m wondering just what he could know that would be pertinent to the case….

Mad respect to Staton and Curtis for putting a character who is presumably Tawara/Takei’s gay partner in today’s strip!

Can any of the old-timers here tell me whether this is a first for the staid and conservative institution that is Dick Tracy?

I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that crude caricatures of stereotypical homosexuals may have been part of the mix at some point under previous artists and writers, but I have a hunch this may be the first time a gay couple has been portrayed as normal and healthy in the Dick Tracy universe.

George was in “The Dick Tracy Story”? :)

George seems awfully young for someone in his mid to late seventies. They HAVE said the case is at least that old, and for him to have some knowledge of the camp, he’d have to at least be 75-80?

Once again the daily colorists strike. Team Tracy’s coloring of George on Sunday was spot-on. The syndicate’s daily colorists make him look Caucasian.

this is, as far as i know, george’s SECOND foray into comic strip canon,,,, the first being in a recent issue of the KEVIN KELLER comic strip.. kevin is archie’s gay friend who went to see george takei at a comic convention, but missed him by a few minutes. george read an essay that kevin had written for school as to who his idol was, and he said it was george for coming out and standing up for gay rights etc. george ended up travelling to archie’s town and the high school to hold a special “meeting” in the school auditorium where he brought kevin on stage and thanked him for writing the essay

Yes, the name change: Tarawa vs. Tawara, is odd. Maybe nerves on George’s part? As for Lizz (sic), she is drawn way to young. She could be my great grand daughter!

Pretty…but too teenaged.

Time is flexible in comic strips. We’re never sure if the strory is taking place in 2013. George would have to be over 72 and Tracy much, much older. A story that takes 6 weeks to tell, may have happened in just a few days.

I have to wonder if George Tawara may have witnessed something important in the cold case.

Quick question:

I know Tracy’s eyes are draw as a black line with a dot underneath, but does he have an ‘official’ eye colour?

Was he in the story where they were filming a movie and Dick Tracy was playing himself?

This story was written by Max Allan Collins in 1990 I believe and coincided with the real DT movie.

Now, now, Mikey.. We’ll put your drawings on the refrigerator as soon’s we can find space. After all, Ruthie’s Good Art deserves a look, too !

The only time I’ve seen George Takei look even close to his age is in a recent episode of “Hawaii Five-0” in which he played a Hawaiian moonshiner who was of course Chin Ho’s uncle. It’s also the scruffiest I’ve ever seen George look – the man dresses very well.

Tarawa isn’t.”Someone mentioned yesterday that Tarawa (yesterday’s spelling) was the location of one of the desperate and significant battles from WWII. Many of us thought Mike Curtis was acknowledging this, which veteran Marines like myself appreciate. I’m thinking since the Sundays are completed and submitted months before the dailies that perhaps Tarawa was supposed to be the original spelling, but maybe they thought better of it and switched to Tawara. Or maybe it was a misspelling, who knows.

then let ME insult the bible instead, since it is MY religion. whatever happened to God created everyone in His image? He loves nobody more than anyone else so why all the hatred for gays?

No offense intended, Ken, but I always find it hard to accept the literal, verbatim, quotes taken from today’s Bible as the word of God, as the Bible has been translated and edited dozens of times over the centuries.(Even the King James version has been revised and edited since it’s creation in 1610.)Inevitably words, phrases and whole books have been removed, rewritten, and altered, according to the abilities and opinions of those doing the editing. Which is, of course, only human.And therein is my problem.

As for myself, I have never cared for Star Trek, but, I’m liking this story, so far

Besides, you post plenty of pics yourself, and would you like it if people posted nasty comments about them or complained because you post so many of them? If not, then learn to be more tolerant of others when they post their pics, even if they’re not your cup of tea. I’m just trying to reason with you is all. I like your creations, but even if I didn’t I wouldn’t complain about them and say nasty things about you.

Maybe Dick Tracy played a part in The Green Berets. Wow – George Takei in a movie with Duke Wayne himself!!
