Mom: "To select ringer tone..." Cathy: You don't need that. Mom: To program memory..." Cathy: You don't need that. Mom: "To activate caller I.D...." Cathy: You don't need that. All you need your new phone to do is to call and hang up! Mom: Didn't our old one already do that? Cathy: Mom, please! There's a huge difference! Dad: We plugged ours in and it worked for 25 years. Mom: Ah. Cathy: Could you try to appreciate technology?

Make sure you get the caller ID. Then you don’t answer the phone when it is a number that you don’t recognize. Those calls that come from out of state, and are telemarketers.
Saves you a lot of aggravation.

Easier to sign up for the “do not call list”. It actually works. Caller id is also a great idea, but some phone services charge extra for it. Menus are not only tedious, they are frustrating. lol

I don’t get it. Yes, menus are tedious, but if you’re not going to use at least some of the features, why get a new phone if the old one still works just as well? Cathy needs to MHOB [mind her own business] on this one and let her parents select whatever features THEY want and think they need — not her and what SHE thinks they need.
Hi, rgcviper!
gmforde: The “do not call” list works pretty well — except when it doesn’t. We’re constantly harassed with robo-calls from either “Rachel” or “Heather” at “Cardholder Services”. There’s no human to talk to regarding the removal of our number from their list and it doesn’t do any good to wait out the message until the end to press a certain button to remove it “as promised” either. If anything, doing that just steps up the calls. There’s one other robo-calling company that calls pretty regularly, too, but I forget offhand who they are right now. Then, there’s the “Windows” [not Microsoft Windows — just “Windows”] people calling from India [or wherever] wanting to fix the “computer problem” we supposedly called them about [which NEVER happened, of course, and is nothing but a scam by people looking to take over your computer and hold it hostage unless you pay them money to [maybe] give it back to you]. We don’t get calls like this on our cellphones and I can’t wait for the day when we get rid of our landline for good but because our home’s security system is tied into it, we can’t exactly do that right now. Some day though!
Hello and Happy Thursday, fellow “Cathy” fans. I know it’s only the 2nd day of January but I hope everyone’s new year is going well so far!!!!! ;-)

Yeah … like some of you, I"d say that the choice should be Cathy’s mom’s. Of course, that wouldn’t be worthy of an [eye-roll], now, would it?
HI, MOM. Hello, “Cathy” Clan.

Do not call list seems to be a list for them to call.
Don’t have caller id – what if family member called from another number in an emergency and one did not answer it because one did not know the number on caller id, let alone companies you want to talk to that have multiple numbers and the number shows up and you don’t realize it’s them & you lose your insurance, etc.
We have old fashioned copper wire phone lines and phones that do not need other electricity to work. Always work. Hurricane Sandy – no cell towers, house phone worked as did not need electric. Older is better.
