I bet it will fire. After all they’re still digging upWWI unexploded live bombs so anything’spossible.

And the turret’s also working? And the shells are intact? Not?

    Doesn’t the turret need electricity?

I still have WWII small arms ammo that my father brought home and it still works. Guns left in the desert? That’s another question.

If you notice, he is using the hull mounted machine gun, not in the turret. It moves manually, no power needed. But it does have a limited arc of fire, all the bad guys need to do is come at the tank from the sides or back.

My dad was in the Super Sixth and trained in the desert in San Diego for combat in North Africa. Then Gen. Montgomery arrives while they were in southern France to tell Patton that the Brits, not the 6th, would be going to Africa; the 6th would, instead, move through France to invade Germany. Which they did. Patton was livid, though. Despised Montgomery. My dad was a member of Patton’s General Staff and took pictures of Patton and Montgomery outside a tent. Pictures which my d*mn older sister sold for thousands in cash, after my dad’s death, to enrich herself. Sorry — venting.

You’d be surprised what was covered in jungle warfare classes in those days.

No electric controls in WWII tanks. Just turn those cranks.

in 1958 they found a B-24, the Lady be Good, that crash-landed in the North African desert, and it was in very good shape. One of the recovery team tried the M-2 50 cals, and they fired like they were fresh from the armory. The dry environment kept the wreck in very good condition. This eventully led to the establishment of the MASSDC (aka Boneyard) aircraft storage area in Arizona

This strip was published in 1964 about 20 years after that tank would’ve been abandoned in the desert during WW2. It’s possible that machine gun could still fire.
