Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for January 29, 2013
Transcript:
Jeff: Welcome to the Doonesbury Mailbag, which, of course, no longer holds actual mail! Zipper: Nor email, for that matter. Jeff: No, these days we field your questions exclusively through our Twitter feeds! Zipper: And here's an incoming tweet now! Jeff: Why Twitter? Well, with the 140-character limit, we know that questions will always be concise! Zipper: @zipper why r u 2 so lame? Jeff: Although quality can vary. Zipper: #losers #worststripever.

Jeff actually speaking pleasantly? How refreshing!
annieb1012 almost 12 years ago
And in standard English, too!
annieb1012 almost 12 years ago
And smiling!
YatInExile almost 12 years ago
They know that it’s hard to complain in < 140 characters.
annieb1012 almost 12 years ago
@dukedoug
Yes, actually, we do know that. That’s what makes it funny!

“Don’t you know that they’re all just actors playing parts in the strip ??”
Sometimes I get confused.

I thought Doonesbury and the family were actually related, although they are in fact only acting out the storylines here.

“To me it looks like Jeff has two hands on his head in panel 2.”
Those are WWI aviator cap ear-protection flaps that he’s wearing in the “up” position

whenever, a show does viewer request mailbag, it is usually because the producers ran out of ideas.

Concur with the “reader tweet.”

Twitter is the big thing these days I guess. They (teachers) went on twitter when my kid went on an overnight field trip not long ago. It was a very useful application of twitter.
SusanCraig almost 12 years ago
Oh, yeah… and they’re tying a little knot (see the ends of the strings hanging onto his forehead)
montessoriteacher almost 12 years ago
Maybe twitter could be the only real life way of contacting GT these days? You sometimes have more power on twitter since lots of others can read it and many others do read Doonesbury on twitter…
montessoriteacher almost 12 years ago
At least they read others commenting on Doonesbury on twitter I should say…
TimmyF almost 12 years ago
Tell me I’m not the only one who looked up “@zipper” on Twitter. Hint: It’s not a Doonesbury acccount.
William Bednar Premium Member almost 12 years ago
They should use twit, it allows only 70 characters!
montessoriteacher almost 12 years ago
I would not look up zipper on a bet. You will get the lowdown from doonesbury on twitter…

“I think the twitter questions are getting too long, let’s only accept emoticons.” – Jeff

You have to read both Doonesbury and Mallard. There is no in between. If you read only one, you just get half the picture.
rockngolfer almost 12 years ago
The comments here are nothing like the ones Bruce Tinsley gets on Mallard Fillmore daily.

When I was interviewing prospects for a vacancy in the doctors’ (3) office where I was office manager, I always got a chuckle when the interviewee said “I love working with the public.” A dead giveaway that she hadn’t.

Zipper has just GOT to get a new hat. I’m glad he’s not wearing a baseball cap, all men look like dweebs in a baseball cap, but at least get a hat that fits.

“Treat people decently” works just as good for customers as it does for friends. The difference is in how people treat the salesclerks. Which is a shame because it shouldn’t be. . . .My saving grace during my stint in retail was that I was in a jewelry store and if you treated me too nastily I had recourse.
montessoriteacher almost 12 years ago
You are right, morosemoose. It seems weird that some want to waste their time complaining about the strip everyday. I completely understand people like DT, who also hangs out here, since he enjoys Doonesbury.

Panel 3: “@ZIPPER WHY R U 2 SO LAME?”
Shouldn’t that be: “@ZIPPER Y R U 2 SO LAME?”
DylanThomas3.14159 almost 12 years ago
“Without Doonesbury, what would people like DylanThomas do all day?”
Poke fun at G. Martin on Calvin ‘n’ Hobbs?
kaffekup almost 12 years ago
If Zip lost his hat, he’d have to lose his innocent eyes. As we know, as a character loses his or her innocence, the eyes get smaller. What does that say about Jeff, who wears Oakleys 24/7?
pawpawbear almost 12 years ago
Not a troll in sight. How did that happen? Hey guys.
DylanThomas3.14159 almost 12 years ago
“Not a troll in sight.”
That’s worrisome, John. Don’t trolls = more stimulation? And more stimulation = more traffic? Only about 60 comments so far today. Whatta pit.
DylanThomas3.14159 almost 12 years ago
Pal Cal’s legacy ZERO EVIDENCE.
