My favorite Lifesaver is butter rum. Many years ago they came in clove. When I was a kid I’d get a Lifesavers “Sweet Story Book” every year for Christmas. I always saved the butter rum for last.
Roger appears to me to be wearing only half a life preserver.
I don’t think the other half could be so neatly submerged in the couch cushions.
My theory is that he has devised a very secure dry land safety device…. the half-circle of life-preserver is sewn to the couch at each of its ends….
Roger slides into the resulting arch, feet first, till he’s lying down…and then, he can’t fall off onto the rug….
Or into the waves, in the supremely unlikely even that Ballard county is inundated with deep floodwater…
And in that case, he’ll not be struggling to keep his head above water…oh no ….he’ll be floating along on the couch…. with a convenient rope attached, which he can tie to any handy dock, or toss to a would-be rescuer.
I’ve had a weird couple of days… Some kind of little flu or cold brought me down, in spite of having had a flu shot.Luckily it seems to have only lasted about 24 hours…. I HOPE!
I’m wondering whether I could have caught it from the Monkey… though obviously a lighter case.I’m not sure whether that’s even possible…First because we seem to have an almost magical lack of contagion on Ballard Street…have you noticed?
And, second, because he’s…um… well…. he’s a monkey. I mean… do we…. do they…um…. I mean, no offense, Monkey…. but do we have the same germs?
Anyway… my sleep pattern is even more messed up now…. but I know I have to go to bed.
But I really want to thank Stel again for giving me the title to Elvis….If you ever need to borrow him back to run any errands for SCHAABS, just let us know.
And yesterday I never got a chance to say….Did you know that when you went to the Ballard DMV, we might have been right there, on the other side of the building, picking up my mail?
Isn’t it wonderful that the county finally finished remodeling that beautiful building, long abandoned by the Consolidated Computer Academy and Clown College district?
I hated to see it in disrepair….but now all four sides house businesses or civic offices. It’s so good to have a place for the DMV and Post Office in keeping with their fun-loving atmosphere.
We were there about 2pm that day…. when were you there?
Roger lives his life being prepared. Why, just yesterday, he had a lifeboat installed on the back of the house….and he lives at the top of Little Ballard Mountain (which is 52 feet higher than Candi’s Mountain, according to x_Tech Industries ).
I think Susan is RIGHT about the 1/2 preserver because there is no break in cushions (a single one). I had wondered WHY he left th rope dangling, but it makes sense (as much as anything on BS) if he expects the house to float off.
@Susan, My one attempt at helping one of my sons with Cub Scouts “Pinewood Derby” was carved and painted something like that (and it WAS back when Pink Panther played by Sellers was very popular). I knew that he and I would probably not win for speed, and tho’ most fathers helped (my X was no good at – anything) and it took me days to carve that block of wood into a decent crouching tiger, I thought we might win for looks – it was ruled “too feminine”. Son was very hurt as we had both tried so hard and I did not feel they’d been fair either. I wish we had a photo at least. I think I’ll send my boys a print of yours.
Looks to me like he has been wearing it since he was a child. He’s grown into it.Interesting sea story. I was out with my uncle open sea fishing back in Wilmington NC. About 1969. We saw what appeared to be a man in a life jacket out in the water. We headed over to it. A bit bad but it was the remains of a merchant marine sailor who apparently went over after his ship was sunk. We recovered the remains and contacted the Coast Guard. They met us at the dock. You could still read the name on the back of the jacket after it had dried some. My dad fell to the ground. It was a fellow sailor he had served with. He had been on the same ship. Their ship was torpedoed back in 1943 and went down. My dad got to the life boat but many did not. No identity as to who he was except for the names gracing the memorial wall at the Merchant Marine Sailors Hall. He was one of them at least and finally made it home. They say the sea never gives up her dead. This time she did, just one.
I believe that the local Lions Club (where my dad used to play- was President once that I remember) used to sell the books of Lifesavers too, I think. That was a long time ago and Dad’s charities were not much higher on my list than Mom’s card games (tho’ I filled in sometimes). I preferred Tripoly to Bridge or MahJongg and they did not take up Canasta till later.
Ahoy ! Ballardeers ! Sorry, I haven’t been on since yesterday ( or was it Wednesday ? ). I am currently “on the job” and on the high seas ( literally ) ! Because of a laptop mechanical malfunction, I was unable use it and since I wasn’t home, I couldn’t use my AIO.Thanks to some very nice people, I am using a borrowed one.Since I am on shipboard and the seas haven’t exactly been calm, I had to laugh myself silly over today’s cartoon, since I have a feeling that many passengers may be doing exactly that – or at least sleeping in their life jackets ! Although they won’t admit it, after the recent Carnival Triumph “problems”, many passengers are very edgy. I will keep you all posted and check in as often as possible before I’m back in the friendly confines of the Tiki Bar next week.
Without a warning, Susan is strucken with the same bug as was Stel; strangely it seems to have given her a similar appearance (and it is late so I need to get to bed).I have cable company coming in the AM tomorrow to service my bedroom TV, so I need to hide all my “inspirational” photos and stuff. Most of the channels I watch up there have static both in picture AND sound (even some local ones) so it needs to get fixed. Tho’ if I get the hub and laptop so I can Skype up there, I may not watch TV all that much (live pictures . . .)
