We just got new Sheers and curtains, had my mom’s old love seat reupholstered, and the house smells so fresh and nice. Oh yeah, the cat died. Will NOT be getting another.
So far we’ve been very lucky with cats and furniture. The only piece that’s really suffered is the back of the armchair, where each in turn has sat to watch the birdies in the trees outside. The back door screen, however, gets replaced every year.
We had our cat for nearly 20 years and she didn’t claw any furniture or screens, EVER. She did destroy many cardboard scratch-pads with embedded cat-nip though. You just have to start them using it as a kitten.
Fortunately, my cat doesn’t shred things. However, if he decided to start I would be declawing him in such a way one would normally think anatomically impossible. Give me a pair of needle nosed pliers and a flash light and I’ll demonstrate.
Forget the kitten part, just put it up high, cats want to claw the tallest thing so we got a scratching post that goes to the ceiling, then we re-carpet the top every year or so.

No furniture is safe from Kitty. Just ask my cat. Oh sorry, he’s busy ripping my recliner to shreds.

Might as well shred it, it’s a horrible colour and the price is outrageous!!

So, why do you have cats in your house if they destory things?

I won’t miss my screens being shredded, but I do miss his nice purr and soft fur. Pros and cons to everything. Happy Monday all.

Actually, my cat would be working on shedding ten pounds of fur per week on any new sofa I get.
