Granted this cartoon strip mirrors much of Lynn Johnston’s life, her depiction of the husband is too much of an idiot. He needs better control of his mouth, eyes and brain … especially when the wife is around. Of course, then we wouldn’t get the comic relief needed here … it’s just that this strikes home to reality for a lot of dumb couples I know.
My wife used to get mad at me for checking someone out, until I caught her drooling at a guy at the gym. From then on, we agreed we could look at the menu, just not order.
El, he might be more attracted to you if you make a change here or there. I’m thinking of putting some effort into a wavy hair style instead of the same old, same old.
Ya gotta love cartoon strips. They sometimes depict life as we wish it were, rather than how it really is. Women NEVER get over being mad and jealous that quickly.
Good recovery, Elly. John has always epitomized in words and action the gaffs that men make. Elly has made her own gaffs. FBOW states what many of us would like to, though don’t. I love sharing this strip with others.
John does have a way of putting his foot in his mouth…frequently. Today’s strip shows he is not completely insensitive and unaware. But, IMO, Elly should make him sweat a little longer.
Remember the good old days – when someone could make an off the wall remark, everyone would have a muffled chuckle and life would go on.Now, one remark can kill a relationship, terminate a job etc.And wives wonder why we won’t talk-it’s too dangerous!!
There is nothing wrong with either John or Elly admiring a physically attractive man or woman. The problem is that John said he’d never have had the guts to ask out someone that pretty back when he was single, which was clearly implying that Elly wasn’t that beautiful.

My man is cutest when he’s asked embarrasing questions by my kids (now in their 50s). That’s why I LOVE this photo!

Yesterday, John said he never would have asked a beautiful girl on a date. How is that not implying that Elly isn’t pretty?

The lady of the house, yet, manages to bring the man of the house to his knees. @ Dazz: beautiful picture

@realist666 (number of the beast) – Elly drab? It is the inner beauty of a person that attracts. The effect of the outer beauty wears quickly.

right drooling and ordering are two different things. as long as two people agree to some basic rules of ’engagement", lol.

Did I miss something? Is there a panel missing??? He did not answer El’s question. I would like to know why he felt comfortable approaching El?

It is better to remain silent and be thought a foolthan to speak up and remove all doubts!

There are (at least!) two sides to every story. It would be interesting to see how a comic strip created by Lynn’s ex would portray John & Elly…

John a piece of advice, if you see a pretty lady and your wife is there, keep your comments to yourself. You’ll live longer.
