Woman: *hee-hee* I guess $10 is a fair price to get what I need for motivation. Danae: Yes it is. Woman: Well, what I want to do is... Danae: Let me guess...lose 10 pounds. But I'd say you need to up that goal by at least 15 more. Woman: I was going to say, write a novel. Danae: Oh...then you need to drink a lot, 'cuz the best writers were drunks. That'll be ten more dollars please. Lucy: Can we stop now?

Danae, that’s not a good motivation. You’re motivating them to find a way to shut you up.

I believe her last line is a reference to a quote attributed to “Papa” Hemingway: “Write drunk. Edit sober.”

Why quit while you’re ahead? Test your limits!

I think Lucy needs a motivational speaker – her protests are too feeble – maybe a Clydesdale snide sale.

Telling people they look fat is being a motivational speaker.

Until the last few decades, it could be said that all of the American Nobel Prize winners for Literature were alcoholics, or at least very heavy drinkers. The exception was Pearl Buck. Correct me if I’m wrong, II think that streak stopped with Saul Bellow..If you’ve ever tried to write while drinking, it’s amazing how wonderful it seems while you’re doing it, and how idiotic the output is when you read it later. .Kurt Vonnegut wrote (through one of his characters) that for a writer, drinking only seems to help; and it only seems to help for the first half-hour..There are many opinions about this, and about writing while on drugs, or in religious ecstasy. I wonder how much of art and literature has done in that condition.

lol, Danae will find out how much $10. is worth to mad as hell people. how much damage it can do to such “motivational” speakers, can it motivate them to beat the life out of them. fat, drunk or not. lol

In several of his writings, Vonnegut claims he nevr wrote while drunk….I don’t think sipping a beer would count but, drunk?…God luck with that!

Obviously the phrase ‘out of mouth of babes’ does not apply to one precious little Danae……

Reminds me of the character from the book The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince). The character was the drunk and when asked why he drank, he replied to forget. When asked what he was trying to forget, he simply replied “forget why I drink.”

This week’s strips seem to be an economic updating of Lucy’s advice stand in Peanuts.

Except that she’s right! Who knows, maybe that lady WILL lose 25 pounds and become a great novelist! You ALL missed the boat again – as usual!
