The only punishment my father knew was hitting, usually instantly, and in a rage, and the only punishment my mother knew was telling my father what we did.
I always wondered what it would be like to live in a family where you got grounded or made to stand in a corner… lost TV privileges or had to do dishes for a week..
you know, the sort of punishments someone thought about and decided upon.
Bev, from yesterday….yes, I read cereal boxes….soup labels, all the instructions that come with things….ancient magazines at the doctor’s office…sheets of newspaper that were wrapped around dishes packed in a box…somebody else’s grocery list left in the shopping cart I’m using…illiterate notes lying on the sidewalk…
I read everything that crosses my path….except books.Go figure.
Fenton, I think I’m calling it a night….Gonna be a long weekend, and I’ll have to travel back and forth to Ballard Street every night from farther away than usual…the place where I never know whether I’ll have computer access.
I’ll try not to be late…. cos Sid is working his other job….
He did say he’d come here after that shift, if you need him….cos if I have no internet I can’t get to the Tiki.
Maybe the Monkey’ll be hanging around, dying bananas green or something…..
HOPEFULLY, I’ll have a computer to use and internet access….Usually I do at her house, but I never know what she’s done to it by the next time…See you around the turn… if I can….and Monday night, if I can’t.
If that happens, Happy St. Pat’s… I think the Monkey is gonna try barbecuing corned beef….
Hi monkey. Cornered yaks ribs sounds interesting. I don’t think that they would fall through the grill,But now I have a hankering for corned beef and cabbage. I wonder if I can get some tomorrow?
I didn’t like standing in a corner at school. At home, we were sent to our room. I think I was spanked only once, for sticking out my tongue at my father.
Now that dawn is arriving earlier I want to get to bed earlier even tho’ it is pleasant to lie there and feel the breeze from the window ;-D Having a cup of herbal tea now.
lol! All this talk about a mouse with a ball and red light sound strange. But I hear you Bev. Usually it is the battery. Try one more battery, in case you got an old one put it by mistake. Otherwise, if the red light is clean and everything else is clean, your mouse is very sick and may be dying.
DAZZ my earrings were for 25 years in one company. VERY good quality, with diamonds. I am careful with them, but love them too.I didn’t know you sewed all your costumes. You are very talented.
I am ! I’ll have a pint of Guinness and a Redbreast, Lucky. And you better set up the same for Red. He’ll be along shortly. What’ll you have, Bev ? I’m buyin’….
Let be the first to give you all an Irish toast and blessing:
Is féidir leis an bóthar ardú suas chun bualadh leat.Raibh an chóir ghaoithe a bheith ag do chúl.Go dtaitní an ghrian go bog ar do chlár éadainAgus féadfaidh an Tiarna Dea tú a choinneáil i mbosa a láimhe!
May the road rise up to meet you,May the wind be at your back,May the sun shine gently upon your face,And may the Good Lord keep you in the palm of his hand !
I was just going to tell you I suspected the batteries, too ….when I refreshed again and you’d done it.
My last mouse was like that… it would go nuts when the batteries were low…. Then it started to get more and more erratic….new batteries wouldn’t fix it.It zigged when I wanted to zag….And if I tried to draw a circle in Paint it would have several corners.
One day it started opening programs if I accidentally moused over the icons…. even without clicking…..
I had to deposit it in the home for old mouses….. sigh….
And now I have one that simply turns itself off, suddenly, about every three weeks, because it wants a new battery; and it won’t budge till it gets one.
pcolli, Pacopuddy, Six….. if you come around…you must think we’re all crazy.
There’s nothing about St. Patrick’s day anyone would celebrate in England…. and nothing in all of Ireland so Irish as St. Patrick’s Day in an American bar!
i went with an English guy for years… he was a quarter Irish…. a fact he would hardly ever admit…but in the U.S, on this day, it doesn’t matter whether your great-great- grandparents were Italian, Jewish, Mexican, African American…. for one night you’re Irish.
But a friend who lives in a small city near Dublin says some pubs are now marking the day with corned beef and green beer…billing it an American St. Patrick’s Day.
Fenton, I wrote a note you can just leave there behind the bar, OK?.It says Red wants to buy the Linguist a drink, whenever he comes in ….
Thanks.
Oh… Monkey…. I saw the stuff in the fridge.Bananas just don’t look right dyed green….and sorry, nobody wants banana-noodle soup for St. Pat’s anyway.And…. sigh…. no…. green snickerdoodles aren’t vegetables either.
Thanks, Shikamoo, My sewing machine is getting too old and I think I may buy a refurbished one. Any of my kids who would use one already have and I don’t plan to be sewing forever (unless my man decides to join SCA and I can make stuff like matching cloaks and those Shakesperian breaches for playing with a rapier. I would love to sew him some stuff, made some silk PJs for him once, but that’s all. He would not wear those anymore anyway . . .
I won’t be having any drinks today (other than koolaid and herbal tea – had my V8 with breakfast (eggwhite omelet with 5 cloves of garlic, 2 large mushrooms and some fresh chopped sweet pepper, spinach on the side). No meat, but if I cook some cabbage, I’ll brown to carmelized and want a few T of yogurt with it (not allowed, so I’d be cheating)
Not to worry, mate ! I knew what ya mean’t. It’s the sentiment that counts – not the spelling ! Thanks Red and Icky for the drinks. I just got off from working and have built up a powerful thirst !This weekend, since early Friday morning has been a real struggle and I’m glad to be done of it !I don’t go out for amateur Irish drinking day, so I’ll hoist a few here at the Tiki, have some corned yak ribs and go home to me bed. It being Sunday, I doubt it will get too Rowdy on Ballard Street, tonight. I think all the drunken spalpeens were out last night.Well, I best have a wee uisce beatha and a pint of the best to chase it with. Sláinte agus Sonas !
“Water of Life” is whiskey in Ireland, but various other drinks as you travel. We all know that alcohol was mostly added (and brewed) because water was not always trustworthy. I guess that is why I never had a problem when traveling.
I’m keeping a tab open on my browser now for the Cornell Hawk cam. Mom (Big Red) is sitting on her currently 2 eggs very patiently and will probably lay another in a day or two. She tends to have clutches of 3. I love the sibling rivalry and interaction when they are hatched and learning to eat, and later, to fly.
Daddy (Ezra) just called out a loud “honey, I’m home” and she flew off to attend to eating and anything else and he settled on to keep their eggs warm. She will probably only be gone as long as it takes to hunt and eat (or he may have left her something nearby).
I only have a second to check in right now….I was on my way a few hours ago but I got interrupted….
Happy St. Patrick’s Day, again, all….wish I could stay and hoist a couple with you all, but duty calls.Fenton, my friend, I’m going to take a corned yak rib with me, and some of those mashed potatoes, and some slaw, Ok? I’ll be back after the turn to help out….
