Danae: How did global warming get started, Daddy? Joe: Daylight Saving Time. Danae: Wait... what? Joe: Well, as we all know, that's when winter is over... and now that Daylight Saving Time starts earlier and ends later, spring and summer last longer, which causes global warming. Danae: Hmm... ok... that makes sense. Thanks! Joe: You're welcome. *giggle* Kate: You know this is for her school science report, right? Joe: Danae! Hold up...

That’s as logical as any other reason for global warming I’ve heard over the years.

No, no – the new name is ‘Global Climate Chaos’
Warmer than average? Global Climate Chaos!Cooler than average? Global Climate Chaos!More storms than average? Global Climate Chaos!Fewer storms than average? Global Climate Chaos!Completely average? Global Climate Chaos!
It’s a magical theory that explains EVERYTHING!
And magically, the solution is exactly the same as in the 70’s when it was global cooling that was going to kill us all – More government power and higher taxes. Which is the exact same solution as when the food crisis was going to kill us all, and the water crisis was going to kill us all, and the desertification crisis was going to kill us all and the deforestation crisis was going to kill us all and…
There seems to be a pattern to this…

Junk science and joke science are very similar. Take some facts and tack on your own reasons for them. In the 1970s the globe was cooling off, the ice caps were growing and the oceans were shrinking. We were heading into an ice age and we were doomed. It was our fault then too so we had a bunch of anti-pollution equipment added to cars and the lead removed from gasoline. I guess it worked too well. The global warming is our fault gang is no better than the religious people they condemn. It is all about control.

if one actually believes that we don’t change the environment that we live in for good or bad, one is not living in reality.

For the few of you out there still rational and not religious fanatics, nor superstitious, nor in deep denial, some real evidence regarding global warming and its threat is in the book “The Flooded Earth” by Peter D. Ward. Amazon partners have it cheaply.

Well Daylight Savings does fade the curtains and put the cows off their milk (just ask any Queenslander) so I suppose it could cause global warming too.

THANK YOU,! Wiley. You used the correct spelling of “Daylight Saving Time.” Well done, lad!As for wild weather, I drove to the nearest town yesterday, and had to stop on the highway; the RCMP had the road blocked while a tow truck extracted a car from the median. Snow, blowing snow, rain, sleet; and beside the highway, there were snow banks taller than a semit-trailer. By this time last year, a friend of my wife’s had planted her potatoes, but today there’s still almost a metre of snow covering our garden. This winter gave us the most snow in recorded history.

can see all the Al Gores here jetting around the world, with their big houses and their big boats….telling everyone they have to give their money to ME! Saw even europe ditched the Cap and Trade Fraud. Most of the most vocal supporters of Global Warming are in for the money. Everyone wants a better world…just some don’t want to destroy open and space and steal other people’s money. I see it EVERY WEEK. Al Gore made millions off this fraud…should he de using all those ill gotten gains to actually do something? This week $250 Million Taxpayer DOLLAR gone with the electric car FRAUD of FISKER. The globe has been warming since the ICE AGE. Wind and Solar are a joke that work 10-35% of the time and need 100% CO2 emitting backup…what is your plan for the other 65-90%…since CO2 free 100% available nuclear has been declared no go? Which is it…CO2 bad or not? GOOD CARTOON!

I’d like to remind the Global Warming nay-sayers that there is a difference between snowfall and climate change. Over the years I have seen on this earth, neither has been connected. Two of the biggest snowfalls were in periods of warm winters. I made a set of skis at the age of about 14 to have four very cold winters with no snow follow. Never got the chance to use them or break a leg.

Makes as much sense as any other anthropogenic cause for climate change. The climate has been changing for the entire 4.5 billion years the Earth has existed. To believe that Man, which is a product of the Earth, could effect climate change in the geologic time fraction of an instant in which he has existed is the height of hubris. Is it a good idea to be good stewards of the environment in which we reside? Of course! But to believe we can affect the climate is idiotic. Scientific “consensus” changes as much as the weather (which is different than climate). In the 70’s, scientific “consensus” believed we were on the advent of a new Ice Age. Ancient scientific “consensus” considered the Earth to be flat and the center of the universe. The most probable explanation for the current push for “Global Warming / Climate Change” is a political extortion for more tax dollars. Wake up, people!

I remember trying to breath in L.A. in the ‘70s. It’s still not great, but much improved. Regardless of climate change, environmental regulations are good if you like clean air & water.

Reminds me of some of the wonderful Calvin & Hobbes strips where Calvin’s dad would explain things to him, just as Danae’s dad did today.Calvin: “Why are all old photos black and white?”Dad: “Actually those are color photographs, back then the world was black and white.”

And to all of you climate change deniers, consider this:Perhaps things won’t become too terrible in your lifetime, but many of you have children and even grandchildren; what kind of world will it be for them if we don’t start fixing things right now? As the population increases and resources become more scarce, as the ice caps melt and droughts destroy crops, as super-storms damage large cities and farmland, what kind of future is it going to be for your loved ones.My wife and I didn’t have kids, so we leave no blood kin behind when we pass, but we still think of all of our friend’s kids and their kids and wonder just what kind of world they will inherit.Does the phrase “err on the side of caution” make sense to anyone anymore? Or are you so wrapped up in your selfish little worlds and blind dogmas that you refuse to see what is going on around you? It’s your kids and grandkids who will go without. Don’t be surprised if they’re angry that you didn’t look out for their interests and future a little more.

Oh the intelligentsia always calling names at the “deniers” and the “Bible thumpers” – will you ever tire of your stupid clichés? Does it make you feel smart to ridicule God and his believers? Who do you think started universities during the middle ages? You want to find a scientist that supports the theory of manmade climate change? Just go to any university that receives government or private funding to support their research!

There is always change – live with it. The slash and burn techniques used to settle north America caused the rivers to be more base, which allowed certain species of fish to increase(trout, for one). Acid rain is just bringing to rivers back to where they were and everyone thinks that is bad.(yes, I realize there is more to it, but…..)Remember, there are many natural poisons and we have to learn how to avoid them. The only thing man has done that nature has not is to use nuclear power and bombs. mount pinatoba released more pollution into the atmosphere than man did in the previous 100 years(and that was only one eruption).
Follow the money here. Who is going to profit? I am not saying that we should allow everything to pollute so that progress can go on, but many of the solutions are just schemes so that certain people and their friends can profit.

I am bored with getting into exchanges with you bitter, vitriolic right-wingers who take any argument, no matter how quietly and reasonably presented, and launch into a screaming, insult-laced diatribe. You presume you are right, but you don’t really KNOW that you are (unless you actually are a climatologist). The very tenor of your post shows that you are vainly attempting to beat down any dissention because deep down inside you have a blinding NEED to be right, even if you aren’t. It’s the behavior of the rankest of bullies, and it’s pitiful. You are the poster child for the old adage:Liberals are full of questions, and conservatives are damned sure they have all the answers. And if I am, indeed, a “son of a dog,” what are you a son of?

Now that there is more Daylight Saving Time than Standard Time, Standard Time is sub-standard.It’s funny how the deniers who accuse the believers of using junk science have their own brand of junk science to believe in. On another forum someone claimed that climate was affected by the Magnetic North Pole wandering away from the Geographic North Pole because of pressure from the solar wind. He never responded when I asked for details and references from any real science websites.

I doubt they care, and nor should we. The next question we should ask is ‘why’, and the answer to that is: ‘to keep us from noticing that everything they are doing about ’global warming’ is restricting access to land and property by the people, in favour of ‘green’ corporations, and retarding any useful response to environmental clean up or protection.
As long as everybody is engaged in debating the GW thing, they aren’t blocking these actions by the chemical industries and development industries to control access to land and property. They are also not addressing the invironmental pollution issues we are living with.
The government is instituting more and more regulation which shuts ordinary people out of the issues of where to develop, how much, and by what means. Industry marketing is going around beating their breast about how wonderfully ‘clean’ their processes have become. Everybody has forgotten about the environmental issues which preceded the GW debate.
People: Silent Spring has not ended. Our minds have simply been deflected from the issue of industrial waste. Toxic industrial waste is still with us, and still growing. Carbon credits are another bit of clever marketing which can’t make a difference to anyone or anything but the industries which are getting the free pass. To add insult to injury, many if not most of those industries are subsidized by your taxpayer dollar.
So just go on with the GW debate if you want that state of affairs to continue. It’s true that I’m very old fashioned, but I don’t think there is anything civilized in a culture that finds the poisoning of their wells to be an acceptable practise. That’s really the bottom line.

My, such a lot of noise signifying nothing. “Beaten?” Only in your hyper activated dreams. You are a sad, bitter little man who yearns to mimic his avatar and destroy his enemies, but will never succeed.Nor will you ever turn to your beliefs anyone who didn’t already set store by them; hence your anger and frustration.Sad, really. But the very issue of Global Climate Change revolvers around the fact that the Earth, while warming overall, is also being subjected to even colder conditions in certain areas. It’s all part of the massive “give-and-take” that comes from heat exchange, and on a global scale the amount of energy being released in almost beyond our mortal comprehension (witness Hurricane Sandy). Yes, the oceans have only warmed a very small amount, but that change affects the ice caps, the currents and even the air above, and therefore has the potential to, over time, change the entire planet.Certainly man alone is not responsible for this, but if we’ve contributed even 25% to the change with greenhouse gases, then we’re in no small part responsible for the debacle that we face. And even though these kinds of conditions have happened in the past, the fate of 7 billion people didn’t hang in the balance last time around.Just something to consider.
