Phoebe and Her Unicorn by Dana Simpson for March 24, 2013
Transcript:
Marigold: Before we get to the party I ought to brief you on unicorn party etiquette. Always look a unicorn in the eye. Try not to stand in a unicorn's blind spot. And most importantly... EAT WITH YOUR FACE. Phoebe: What? Marigold: Eat with your face! Phoebe: Why? Marigold: Unicorns do not have hands. You will be seen as showing off. Phoebe: What will you do if I accidentally remember some table manners? Marigold: Who IS this strange finger-beast I definitely did not bring?!

Last panel funniest thing I have read all WEEK. Also my imagination way over colored every thing when all we had was B&W. Also I’m learning a lot about Unicorns. Nose picking is a vital thing to remind Pheebs of as she seems to do it a lot to every one not just her self but look a unicorn in the ear and don’t stand in the blind spot never saw those coming. Where is the blind spot any how? and eat with your face, don’t show off your hands great stuff. But that also forbids shaking hands, scratching your self, waving, reaching…Also now Pheebs won’t be able to remember good manners at her next human party. Also watch her starve as all the food will be grass. Unless the party has Apples. If so I hope Silver Apples. Wounder what games they play? a game of human sneakers? Pin the leg on the human? or maybe the whole thing is a trap? If it is a trap would we then be elevating Dakota to super villain and some how explaining how she got to magic world? or will Marigold have a yet unrelieved long time rival who wants to defeat her epically? and who would the rival be? A Pegasus to follow the horse theme? some thing with a humanoid form so it can decadently look like some one we know already? Or maybe some one very small so it’ll be real funny that such a small thing is actually a threat? or maybe its Marigold’s own flesh and blood family calling her home so she has to stay in the magical world and be responsible and she’ll be ordered to give up Phoebe? Or Phoebe will end up as a pet maybe? You know if having hands means showing off how do Unicorns feel about all the human like magical? the Elves, Leprechauns, Menfolk, miniatures, cyclopes etc? I wounder would they not even be in this world or are mermaids , nymphs, etc as strange and pink and rude about hands as humans are? And what if some one traps the unicorns in a cage? and the cage has a lock and the only way to open the lock is to have thumbs? Phoebe could be the hero of the day! Or maybe the Trap is for Phoebe. They Know Marigold travels with her and some one wants to keep her in a zoo and force her to count on her fingers and play the trumpet and dial phones and make shadow puppets and she’ll be forced to perform in public “here is the church , here is the steeple, open the doors and see all the people” and sing “insy wince spider” The Horrors of a hand zoo!

It surprises me that a magic creature * has* a blind spot.…anywhere…

Don’t unicorns use magic to do things we would do with our hands? Maybe the no showing off rule only applies to eating. Maybe there will be other non-magical talking creatures at the party? We’ll see.

Try eating an apple with no hands. Unicorns would have no problem, but I don’t see Phoebe being able to do it.

There is another blind spot, which even humans have, in the spot on the retina where the optic nerve has its connection. But our brains normally fill it in with memory, the other eye, and imagination, so we don’t normally notice it except under laboratory conditions. But I’m sure Marigold means the directly-in-front blind spot.

That’s actually a good punch line.

I bet they play “Pin the horn on the Unicorn”.

I was just thinking, I would love a HN coloring book.
Also how many candles on a Unicorn B-day cake?
strangeanimal over 11 years ago
Will the unicorns have birthday cake…? Seems like they might.

Guess I’ll have to check back later for this comic. Just curious Dana, is it on GoComics’ end that this keeps happening? If so, maybe another site might be more timely. I’m sure I wouldn’t get away with stating the other site I read comics on.

So it’s showing off when humans eat with their hands but it’s not showing off when unicorns eat via levitation?

A day without Marigold is like a day without Marigold. :’-(

Im the car has gull wing doors, a Mr. Fusion and a Flux compasidore and a roof to keep out the bad weather, the car. if it talked and had a personality I got along with, the Pegasus. But I would rather a dragon or a chimera.

I hope Nightshade Lovelycoat is one of the party attendees.

Missing my daily dose of Marigold. Hope all is well, Dana, and we’ll see new strips soon.

Dana, we’re concerned about your health. We love your strip and miss it whenever it’s not here, but mostly we hope you’re OK.
Tim Harrod Premium Member over 11 years ago
Dana, please give GoComics an ultimatum to fix the delays or you will take the strip elsewhere. It seems poor form to complain about an entertainment product that costs me nothing, but having your favorite comic strips in front of you at sunrise is an American tradition that we will not soon get over. The Heavenly Nostrils experience is turning aggravating, which is a Bizarro-world inversion of what you’ve worked so hard for.

Every time (and this seems to happen to this strip a lot) I e-mail gocomics about it they say that it is not them, it’s the submitter. I, also, hope this bodes no more ill for Dana than that her brain cramped up on her.

Yup! ::grins::

I sent them another message (they don’t usually follow the comments) but it often takes them a while to respond.
