I learned from my older brother what is said in Spanish in response to more than one sneeze: 1) salud, 2) suerte, 3) amor, 4) paz… something like that.

Maybe he’s mispronouncing the expression “Ay, chihuahua!”

In Spanish, that’s a rather euphemistic expression of surprise or dismay.

Kinda like… ""Sheesh! I sneezed again?"

In Chile (according to one of my BILs), it’s 1) Salud, 2) Amore, 3) Dinero, 4) Morte.

When I was a kid, we counted sneezes like this: 1 – good, 2 – bad, 3 – letter, 4 – money, 5 – bad cold. What you’d say would be “for your health”, although, when I start sneezing, I always sneeze a lot, so after third it will be more like “OMG what’s wrong with you”.

You can only say God bless you and Thank you so many times before it becomes tedious.

I worked with a guy who could sneeze 13 times in a row. He’d never stop at just 3.

Earl’s Friend was me all this past week, right down to the post-sneeze cock-eyed glasses ! For us older folk, I think just one “Bless you” a day is enough.

Why should one be blessed for sneezing anyway?

It’s that time of year in Calif. Everything is in bloom. Beautiful, but produces many sneezes.

But look, he’s sneezing by the FDA approved method, into his elbow! It’s hard to remember after decades of sneezing into one’s hand, thereby contaminating everything we touch afterwards.

After three, my father in law said “Scat, your tails on fire” He figured at that point, blessing was wasted, it was too late.

Agreed. I used to be a two-sneezer, was promoted to a three-sneeze level and remained so until arriving here in Pollen City. Now it’s a dozen or more at a time, and this woman I know insists on a “God Bless You!” on every one..I take it outside, now.

    This is HILARIOUS!

I sneezed 3 times in a row yesterday but before that I let out a ‘single’ sneeze.

    Nobody said ‘Bless you’ though.

    LOL xxx

The German (rather outdated) version is: “Gesundheit – Schönheit – langes Leben – Kindersegen” (Health – Beauty – long life – many children). But I’ve never known anybody say that except my father. He knew a French version too: “A vos amours! Et pour vous pour tous les jours!” (for your loves! And for yours for all days!)I personally like the Spanish best :-)

‘Bless you’ is normally more appropriate…‘Get outta here’ is probably LESS appropriate in my opinion. I’ve never heard that said when someone sneezes though.

And I agree… That is so much funnier!

I heard after saying “bless you” three times, you say “You owe me an ice cream.” Although I couldn’t say why.

I’ve had a pervasive head cold for several days, spawning multisneezies. I e-mailed my daughter this, and closed with P. S.: Wah-CHOOO! (And two HISH!es)

To the ones posting about what they do in Spain – Gracias!! My husband (who is from Spain) always sneezes multiple times (usually around 7, although I don’t keep track much after 3), and I never know what to say after the second or third “Bless you” or “Jesus”. Not that he minds if I say nothing because he knows this is just how he sneezes, it’s nice to know tradition!
