She hung up and called the cable company, because her call is “important” to them.She’ll call you back as soon as she gets a live voice.

I just can’t imagine what Calvin’s been doing for the past hour.

That’s definitely a great facial expression from Calvin’s mom. Guess Calvin hasn’t been trained in how to take a message.

Don’t touch that phone, woman! Anyone who has nothing to do but wait for you an hour can’t be someone you want to get stuck on the phone with.

…sounds like the earliest onset of Alzheimer’s on record?

Years ago when my son was small, he answered a call from a solicitor for a “worthy cause”. We were overwhelmed with dozens of these calls a week at the time, so when the caller asked to talk to an adult, he decided to “help”. He said “OK”, put the phone down, and didn’t tell anyone. Eventually I noticed the phone was off the hook and hung it back up. Hours later the caller called back and ask for the kid he’d talked to earlier – and gave him a big piece of his mind!

As a kid on one particularly hectic day, I answered a phone call, not knowing who it was, with “Grand Central Station!”The caller hung up!

“Earliest onset of Alzheimer’s on record?” Yes! That’s why – or one of the reasons – old age is called our second childhood!

Maybe the lady likes to listen to elevator music while she waits on hold.

Probably just a telemarketer. Nothing important.

When I was really little, I happened to answer the phone one day and a woman asked me, “Is your mother at home?” I figured that was what she wanted to know so I said yes and I don’t remember if I hung up on her or just placed the phone down. I got yelled at when my mom found out, but I couldn’t understand what I’d done wrong. After all, I had answered the lady’s question!
