Nice to see that Bud has been making such great progress in his origami pants class….
And that he’s filling his retirement with all sorts of other activities as well.
Mildred told me, when I was glittering her hair last fall, that she was worried that she’d have him constantly underfoot…. maybe even have to miss some of her Ballard Ladies Ikebana & Sausage Society (BLISS) meetings….
But now she’s even beginning to think he spends more time bonding with Reggie than with her.
It’s all right, though, she told me last week. She and Miss Fluff (the 20 pound Persian) have a special bond of their own.
(I even do their nails the same shade of Passion Purple!)
Meanwhile…. I’m glad everybody liked the pies…..Today (still Friday here) was the last… I hope… in a series of busy days…
Tomorrow…. well, later “today” to most of you, I suppose…. I hope to relax and bake 187 more key lime pies….and whatever else strikes my fancy.
Please leave any requests at the pie shop with the bunny ladies…
And stop by the salon any time after noon for coffee….drop-in haircut clients also welcome.
Bev makes lots of snickerdoodles.Hang around here long enough I’m sure you’ll get some of them…and my pies and banana bread. And the Tiki runs great specials on yak ribs…sometimes in combos with banana daiquiris.
Oh… and of course I like the James Taylor song. It’s not one of my favorites…but it’s gotta beat the Nancy Sinatra, though that cut has become um…. ironically iconic….
X…. you didn’t really say what kind you wanted…so I made you one of my special blueberry pies…I mean pis….
I usually only make them for Pi Day cos they’re so much work…but that won’t come around again for almost a year…and they’re much too specific for Approximate Pi Day in July(22/7 in Europe and the UK.)
Sounds good, Susan. I’m starting to get hungry for some breakfast. Being that I’m going to be doing my Saturday morning errands in a couple hours, I think I should pass on the drink though
Morning, Grog and Susan. I see you’re both still up and at the Tiki. I’ve wandered in, looking for some coffee.
Fenton? just a black coffee. And the smallest rib you can find. Sometimes dinner is a great way to start the day.
I do hope that Bud and Reggie don’t find any intrusions on the property line. If they do, it might take them longer – and they’ll have to patrol much more often for awhile.
I baked 2 recipes of almond crackers yesterday. The darker ones (underneath) have 2T cinnamon with some ginger and nutmeg and are topped with anise seed; the light ones have lots of oregano, basil, thyme and turmeric and are topped with caraway seeds. I always put the irregular ones on top to eat first (hard to roll out in perfect rectangle) and they tast the same. I have 2 pecan halves there that show the size.
Just finished Skyping with my youngest son back in IL. He’s mixing the food for his pretty Eclectus. At my old house in IL he discovered that the neighbor’s fence was on my side of the line by a good 6-8" (son is a surveryor) and I convinced them to let me have a row of arborvitae installed just to their side (as long as I kept them watered).
It was still a good deal for me as I wanted to sell the place and he was such a slob (I sold the house). Photo of some on DS.
Snickerdoodles! Mmm. May I have one of yours ling?Good Afternoon BSers! I hope you are all enjoying your day. Maybe I’ll see someone tonight. It is hit and miss with me. Mostly miss these days! lol
@Stel I think I resemble that chicken if she’d shake her tail and her wings a little more. My dancing at this point is more about being sure to raise my heart rate for a good half hour than it is about doing a set routine.
@X tech, I had a C-span on First Ladies that I was watching earlier so could not play the music, just danced to it and the joke . . . well I might have been Amish before I met my man just sayin’ ;-P Not never no more! Had a good extra dance before bedtime.
Almost time for Brunch at the Tiki !I forgot to tell Monkey that Machala, Ecuador is the Banana Capitol of the World. The biggest agricultural export is bananas, and this is the one of the largest port cities. I have already made " certain arrangements " so that the Tiki Bar will never be without fresh ‘nanners ! Also I’ll be bringing in all sorts of fruits – mangoes, pineapples, coconuts, guava, etc. – so we can have all sorts of fresh fruit concoctions of the alcoholic and non-alcoholic varieties. Oh, and Monkey, my “special arrangements” include copious amounts of delicious rums and Cristal Aguardiente Classico ( an Ecuadoran favorite but not my choice – I’ll settle for my Redbreast at the Tiki ).FOR TIKI BAR BRUNCH TODAY:Aguacate relleno con camarones: Ripe avocado filled with shrimp, red onion, radish, bell pepper, celery and cilantro aioliCeviche de chochos: A vegetarian ceviche made with chocho beans, onions, tomatoes, cilantro, limes, oranges and tomato sauce. It is served with maiz tostado, chifles or plantain chips, avocados and hot sauce.Chaulafan de pollo: Chaulafan de pollo is an Ecuadorian chicken fried rice made with rice, chicken, bacon, onions, garlic, peppers, bell peppers, peas, carrots, scrambled eggs, raisins, spices and herbs.Fritada de chancho: Ecuadorian braised pork dish cooked slowly in orange juice with onion, shallot, garlic and cuminEnsalada de papas con camarones: Ecuadorian or South American potato salad with shrimp, carrots, onion, garlic and mayonnaise. And for dessert:Espumillas: A popular street food in Ecuador, this dessert is a meringue cream made with fruit pulp, typically guava or guayaba, egg whites and sugar.Flan de coco: Coconut flan with orange caramelFlan de piña: Flan de piña is a pineapple flan or custard made with fresh pineapple juice, sugar, milk, eggs, vanilla and rum.ENJOY !
@Bev, If the power bill is a problem, I’m surprised you don’t use LEDs. and Mitch DOES look proud!
I love all the street photos, but there must be many legitimate Ballard Streets. I should check Google Street (still got a list of stuff to search). Last night I was doing many of the new supplements the doc has me on (some rather esoteric and I’ve got one on hold until he explains just WHY he has me on so much). Some searches I’d like to do (but don’t) because the results follow me all over.
After I bought a new range I got suggestions for months on every site, same with my Resperate. Other searches I don’t want to have appearing so I may do them from some other PC. Not planning any trips this year however (very difficult to follow entire diet unless I prepare all the food). Some parts of it (GF) will END on 2-14-14! Other things (drinks and animal protein) will just be more moderate. Many of the supplements will stay (CoQ10, Kaolic etc).
Just about to cut my nails as many are more than 1/4" above the quick; I no longer do the fancy designs that I had after 911 (managed to paint even my RH with those semi flags). I still have bottles of bright blue and white that I only used for that.
Had a great afternoon, a work-related social function. We had a bowling party. I have no self control around pizza and seriously overdid it.Imagine fifty big fat bus drivers and their big fat spouses. (Or big fat significant others.)
I just walked in from a quick trip that I almost forgot to do (38MI RT to fighter practice) some of the men were in full armor (not many, as there is no upcoming war right now). I got to speak with friends and some good suggestions for the awls (I can take a product cut from Tandy or Hobby Lobby and ask students to buy their own). I can keep costs down for them (and for myself) by emailing them the printouts (I’ll just print about 6 to show in class, which they can have for $5 or use their own printers).
Haven’t bowled since…..gosh…. let’s see….Oh.. .let’s not…..But my average was like 80 or something…maybe less…. all I remember was that it inspired looks of disbelief.

It isn’t real…. as you can see by refreshing the whole page….but then you have to re-load all the comments past 15.
That also seems to be the only way to get the time stamps to update….
“Refresh” used to do that too…ie, You can hit it over and over, now, but a comment will still say “ten minutes ago.” You have to refresh the whole page to make it tell you how long ago it really was.

Susan, does anyone ever get a big yak attack?
SusanSunshine Premium Member over 11 years ago
Grog… absolutely!
If it ever happens to you, try a Yak ‘n’ Dak platter…
The Tiki is usually running it as a special.
All the delicious barbecued yak ribs you can eat…though for most people, that’s usually one.
(The Monkey is a transplanted Texmonkian, and runs a giant smoker out back.)
Plus cole slaw, beans and a banana daiquiri…. or for $! more, any drink you choose.Best deal in town!

The avocado with shrimp and the pineapple flan would just hit the spot…

Stel! I DID want to stop by, even though we were way over at the coast.
I called you…but Max answered the phone, and said “Mommy woof woof.”
I had Elvis listen, and he said it meant “Mommy’s at work.”I don’t think he would say that if he didn’t believe it…he likes to see you too.
And we were bringing you two pies, so I brought them back here and left them at WWOI.
