A smart phone in dumb hands kinda cancels each other out, don’t they?

That makes as much sense to me as wanting to text instead of talking to the person. But I’m an old-timer. What do I know?

And everyone he sends it to will wonder what “505” means.

No, wait. That might work!

For heavens sake! Just dial SOS on the phone. Duh.

Hey, that’s a better plan than Dirk had, and that’s why he always loses to Brewster . . . ☻

I’m doomed – that actually made sense to me for a few seconds.

Brewster knows that they’re too deep underground for voice conversations, and texting also has the risk of data loss and lack of information. Sending a picture of the SOS would ensure error correction protocols and show rescuers that they are underground, and they can determine visually the composition of the rocks and where they are geologically as well as geographically. At least that’s what he’ll put in his log when people ask why he didn’t just call or text.

That’s actually one of his smartest ideas.

This will not end well…

Of course Brewster has a cell phone. He’s in a cell.
