My dad would have said, “Pay bills as far as it would go, and tell the other they’ll just have to wait ’til next month.”

Dad knows of what he speaks. There are people who make a living going to lottery winners (like someone who has won a million dollars, but gets it as $50,000 a year for 20 years) and offering them a lump sum to sign over their rights to their future payments. The lump sum is always a lot less than their total winnings, but they often accept because the winners are not used to handling large sums of money and have already managed to get themselves wildly into debt, often after just a year or two.

A million dollars doesn’t go that far these days. It also depends upon where you live. In Vancouver – a million dollars will buy you a condo in downtown, with enough change left over for a small car. In the Maritimes – that million could buy a town.

.Toby on the other hand should be able to get through the entire million in a week – no house or condo for him. It would be all guy toys! (or at least what he thinks are guy toys).
