I grew up on TOS, and I quite enjoyed the first JJ Abrams Trek, as well as the new one. I have to confess I don’t get the fans who get up in arms about revisiting the series with new stories and actors. You can hardly say Trek has been free of glaring plot holes, inconsistencies, and deus ex machina in the past – and yet entertaining nonetheless.
The new Star Trek are OK I guess, the FX is certainly amazing. I just can’t stand the voice Zachary Quinto uses for Spock. He sounds whiny or like he channeling a little Chinese helium. If that makes any sense. Completely ruins it for me.
As the excellent authors of “Working Daze” pointed out yesterday, more seats would have been filled had the alternate timeline decision not been made, even if most of the now-alienated Star Trek fanbase aren’t nearly as rabid as Roy. Therefore, that decision was a bad one, financially. Hard to argue with, no? They could have just as easily told these stories with new characters with different names. Oh, wait, I said “new”, a word that sends shivers down the Hollywood suits’ spines.
I just watched the ’09 Star Trek for the first time. Just happened to see the DVD in the $5.00 bin at the store this morning. Too funny of a coincidence to not take advantage.
The movie was a fun ride but I prefer canon continuity.
I’m with you & the Doc, Red – and I’m a TOC fan, as of September 1969! Heck, I’m President of a Trek fan club, and I understand and SUPPORT the reboot! The Roys of the world have to wake up and smell the coffee, or accept that there will BE no Star Trek EVER again.Period.Unless, of course, Rita and MMM do it. (HORRORS!)
Roy is right. Star Trek 2009 was okay. Star Trek 2013 is a piece of crap. Please… no more of Abrams. No more Orci. No more Kurtzman. These three men are warping Star Trek into the toilet and needs to be rescued from their evil clutches. Regards… NR. Fan of Star Trek since 1972.

I guess I’m good at accepting the changes. I’ve seen so many fan-made things that the new movies are like that to me.

The nerve pinch was used on a Dr. Who episode before Star Trek was even on the air.

WTG, Carolina. Maybe when Roy wakes up he’ll be in a better mood.

I haven’t illegally downloaded a camera copy of the movie yet, so I’d rather not know what’s in it or how it ends.

On a different note, does anyone know what happened with the artifact on Eureka? Suddenly they stopped talking about it, and now the show’s over.

The movie was exciting, but I was disgusted that he changed Star Trek history regarding Captain Pike.
