… and there is the idiot that had his ear buds turned so high that he couldn’t hear the train horn – he was walking down the railroad tracks!

This has happened many times over the years.

Well, my sister is half deaf because she played her music too loud, and too many loud concerts. :(

My dad is deaf, partly because he sold guitars, drum kits, amplifiers and such for thirty years. You can only hear the poorly-played opening riff to ‘Crazy Train’ so many times without just giving up and gratefully going deaf.

Was at a gas station and some kid pulled up with his windows pulsing from the beat. As he got out, I chuckled and pulled out my hearing aids and told him with a grin, you end up with these if it gets too loud. Darned if the kid didn’t go turn the sound way down! Amazing what a smile instead of a scold can make happen! (I’m not old, either, just was deafened young.)

Oh, and, at Greg Cravens: for your dad, the new Oticon Alta aids go up to 100 dB, with a dedicated microphone you can have a speaker wear, and blue-tooth that makes even a cellphone audible. Expensive but so very worth it. Love mine.
