    …although not everyone actually enjoys violent and profane comedy….

    It seems eerily prescient of Frazz to have spoken of “foreshadowing” in the same breath with Mrs. Olsen’s caring about the kids, just before this happens…

    Varnes called it yesterday. She was indeed “bowled over”.

    Did Mrs. Olsen just save that girl’s life by pushing her out of the way of the car backing across the sidewalk? If so, the profanity is understandable.

    Wow. Never seen a paramecium [third panel] used as a swear syllable. This woman means business. (And yes, she does care about the kids.)

    True story:In Edmonton (where I live) a man pulled his Hummer in front of a speeding car in order to prevent four children crossing the street from being mowed down. The driver of the speeding car was talking on his cellphone. (Toronto Sun)His insurance company did not charge him for the deliberate damage.

    drivers are still distracted by their phones. even with those psa ads, hands free tech, etc…, they still have to text their bff about stupid stuff, and tweet everything.

    Don’t forget “breaking news.” Hope Mrs. Olsen is ok. But if her hip or leg is broken, I imagine a grateful community chipping in to get her through. And maybe even a captive young audience to a reading of that bargeload of summer reading. Bargeload… Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn?

    If not Tom and Huck, what else might bargeload + violence and profanity be leading us to? Move over Oprah, now we have Mrs. O’s book club. Go big O!

    I agree with your point completely, but I do think you missed my wry humor (delivery too deadpan, maybe). The child has just been knocked down onto a paved surface, and yet she makes an almost existential comment which I found hilarious. I was sort of responding in kind. The absurdity of her thoughtfully linking Mrs. Olsen’s verbiage to that of adult comedians she has perhaps seen on television – in her flattened condition – just struck me as worthy of an equally “serious” remark, and the fact that there are actually many people who don’t like the grossness of contemporary comedy was what came forth. The many layers of “Frazz” are what keep me coming back!

    @Annie

    And I’m guessing “violence” refers to her being suddenly shoved over by a considerably larger person, who then produced the aforementioned profanity.

    “Honey I Shrunk the Kids” put in a wish to send the object to hell or a method of backing up a steam to cause a pond. to get a PG rating because they were afraid that teens wouldn’t go see a “G” movie.

    @mstreselena

    I think our posts just passed each other like ships in the night – you focused on one thing, and me on another altogether! We’re not disagreeing – just not having quite the same conversation. Yes, I have seen those PSAs, although I would never have thought of “a really good one” to describe a girl in a vegetative state. To me, that’s a really sad one. I’m extremely glad your experiences with “distracted” (as they say) drivers left you able to be here to talk about it. There’s nothing more convincing, to those willing to be convinced, than the testimony of one who has “been there.” I’ll be sharing your last post with my college student, who insists upon texting while driving. (As a result, I don’t let her drive my car.) Thanks for relating your experience.

    Mrs. Olsen rocks! And given the variety of never-before-seen cuss symbols, she might be using some really masterly cussing! (I want to know what she used for “phone/cell phone”, as it’s included in the unmentionables!)
