I was getting those calls too. Real annoying since neither of our two vehicles would be covered by any warranty today. They are 21 and 20 years old now and it has been a couple of years since I got those calls. These days, if a number comes up on the caller id I don’t recognize, I just press the answer button, then the disconnect. I don’t even bother to let the machine handle it anymore because I get a lot of calls from who knows who everyday. And the political ones are the most annoying.
back when I worked third shift I’d leave the phone on just in case someone needed to reach me for an emergency. That also meant my phone was on for sales calls and once a month the local paper would wake me up in the middle of the day to ask me if I wanted to subscribe. Whenever they called I’d tell them I wasn’t interested and ask them to stop calling because i worked third shift and they were waking me up in the middle of the night. One month I got so mad at the caller that I think I scared her and she turned me over to her supervisor and that was the last time they called me.
My phone is a land line and I just pick up and then hang up from the nearest extension – but if I am busy (weights in my hands, working out) or a plate on my lap for a meal, it goes on to the FAX. Funny how many times it will ring many times even after FAX signal!
Cartoon makes it appear that caller went into accepted Skype (seeing room spinning). Sometimes I’d like that with mine (all my contacts are family).

I suspect this is part of the reason why telemarketing companies have been switching to automated telemarketers…to take away our fun.
