“Most people in the US are trying to subsist on nothing!”-And doing a GOOD job of it, hence the rise in obesity.(either that or they aren’t as destitute as so many pretend)
So let us consider a possible meaning of the comic strip:Many are trying to tell us that we are all overindulging and have even convinced the very poorest of the poor that she should make do with less.-the truth of the matter is that the very poorest among us have things the very richest couldn’t have at any price just a generation ago. We are surviving diseases which would have killed our parents had they had them. Our homes are larger and more comfortable. Our entertainment is out of this world, or at least the signal comes from satelites directly to our homes. We can talk to friends and relatives anywhere in the country just as easily as we can talk to people in the other end of the house. The most back breaking work is done by machinery. We can send our complaints to our elected representatives at the speed of light and they can ignore them just as fast.-Life is good
