There’s a whole new context to that when you consider, that in my language (Finnish) the same word is often used for egg and the organ men have between their legs…

“I’ve always understood that egg shells are themselves toxic. This was why we used a separate pan for boiling them.”-Sad when people lie to the gullible. But are you saying you boil the shell separate from the rest of the egg?Impressive.

Egg shells aren’t poisonous. (That’s an old wives’ tale.) In fact, they (along with oyster shells and the like) are a source of the calcium in supplements and vitamins. Industrially processed eggs are usually cleaned very well in this germ-phobic USA. Plus, industrially processed eggs are pasteurized before going to market – cases of salmonella occur when that is improperly done. Eggs bought at a farmers market are usually cleaned also, but not pasteurized. Still not a big worry as small scale farmers usually raise their hens with ample quarters, where feces don’t accumulate, and with rodent control (barn cats and the like). They generally really care that “their girls” are properly cared for.

While your comments are informative, I feel that maybe you missed the point of the suggestion which had to have been “go suck eggs”.

Ever wonder ? The first person to eat a egg. " I think I’ll eat that thing that the chicken just pooped out of his butt "…

It was very common to put eggshells in a coffee pot when the grounds were in the bottom of the pot. It was intended to keep the grounds at the bottom and get rid of the bitterness & keep the coffee from becoming muddy from boiling. None of those cowboys died from “eggshell poisoning” so I guess that the old wive’s tale about toxic egg shells is wrong.

That must be an urban legend, Prof. Egg shells are 100% minerals & good for composting; NOT toxic!

We’re all talking about eggs, at least. But yeah, probably because it wasn’t the best joke. And English may be the only language that doesn’t equate eggs with gonads … strange language :-)

We had ducks and chickens. We also had lots of pigs and would buy chicken feed along with the hog feed. Then one day Dad asked the salesman what was in the feed that’s turning the eggs green? (Duck eggs are naturally green)Had ’em going for a while!
