Mailman: Sorry, Mel. Nothin' today. Mel: Guess I better take the initiative... Hi, Justin. It's me. Justin: Mel! What's going on? Mel: Just checking in. Hadn't heard from anyone in a while... Justin: Oh, hey, my bad, sis-- I've just been jammed... The kids all got the flu, and I had to stay home from work. Plus both Chris and Allie are playing hockey, so we've been spending every weekend on the road. Mel: Sounds crazy. Justin: Yeah, it has been. So where you calling from? Mel: Afghanistan. Justin: Oh, right, right... wait, we're still there?

45k in Germany, 10k in Italy, 52k in Japan, and lots more in overseas deployments costing us taxpayers a bundle. In all 175k overseas with 68k in Afganistan. Costing a bundle for us to be the worlds cop and provide a nice reason for military bigwigs to have a European vacation.

The point of the article is how little attention the news media and Americans in general notice that we are still over there. Also, this is a rerun predating the sequester.

It makes me sad that our troops are forgotten, thanks for reminding us.

That’s not a cubicle, it is a morale center, where the troops can go to call home. Her real job is way more interesting.

Yes, per usual, our trolls have missed the salient point GT was making. Many have forgotten about our brave men and women overseas. We have not made the same sacrifices as that tiny percentage who are now serving. And yes, it is a rerun, so not all the details are the same, still the larger point concerns the sacrifice of our military personnel.

I really don’t think that Obama is lacking left wing critics. I don’t recall W having anywhere close to the number of right wing critics as Obama has of us lefty critics. Since the Clinton era, some Democrats have awakened to the reality of being a bit more pragmatic than the other side. However, if the right wing wishes to continue down their pure and suicidal path, I will not stand in their way.

You really don’t understand dues do you? Unions take about two to three hours pay per month. Then they provide bargaining, by professionals, who get the members benefits. Plus, the bargainers make sure that safety regulations are followed. This prevents unnecessary accidents. There is much more that a union does. In skilled trades they provide the apprentice programs that many companies are unwilling to provide. It I s through these apprenticeships that young men a d women are able to learn a job with gradual pay increases.

Your suggestion that every union leader is a thief is both incorrect and insulting. There are 1,000’s of good union leaders out there, working honestly are tirelessly to help the working man.My late Father was one of those men, and I’m telling you right now “Tigger,” you don’t ever want to accuse of my Father of being a thief if there’s any chance I will see it.He hated crooked union bosses more than you do, because every Jimmy Hoffa provided ammo to people like you who would curse all of the good leaders because of the rancid actions of a few cruds. He hated the thought of the union dues being misused, too, and fought hard to make sure that never happened on his watch. So be very careful what you say. If you decide to toss around accusations, you damned well better be ready to back them up with some hard facts.

“Nice to see the return of everybody’s favorite sergeant who believes that everyone is out to sexually molest her.”
Yeah, I know. Don’cha just hate it when women volunteer to serve in the US military, and then get all upset when they’re raped by other US troops, and the higher ups just cover it up?What’s with women like that, huh?You POS.

“A pity that war criminals bush and cheney were so incompetent at getting Osama bin Laden …”
I don’t think so. Oh, I agree that Bush was incompetent, but I don’t think they ever had the slightest intention of pursuing Bin Laden. Had they done that, they might have caught him, and then where would they have been? They’d have been pressured to bring the troops home and get out of it.
They never had the slightest interest in catching Bin Laden.

hey Dufuss get off your vacation and get back to work. Would have it hurt you to write up several strips prior to taking time off?

Why don’t you come back when you know what you’re talking about, whoever you are, pinhead?
McSpook over 11 years ago
In some places, NOT IN ALL.Try to show a modicum of intelligence and realize that there are many honest men and only a few crooks in the Unions. If you’ve got proof that all Unions are corrupt, you better pony up, or else shut up. You’re slandering men who work hard to help other working men. The honest ones deserve our respect.Or are you one of those types who thinks everyone but them is a thief? That sure says volumes about you.
pawpawbear over 11 years ago
Yes, I agree there are abuses. No system is perfect. However Tennessee is a right to work state and no union is going to get more done than the local corporatocracy will allow. Same thing happened in Georgia when they tried to unionize a highway contractor I worked for. The union didn’t even get in. As far as hostess goes, I believe there was more to their failure than union contracts. Others will verify one way or the other. I know you are sincere but your comment does not equal my lifetime experience.
Were it not for unions there would be no OSHA. There would be no clean air. There would be no insurance, except Congress and the White House are trying their damnedest to take that away from us.
There is much good to be said for unions. Too bad there are and were the jackals like Hoffa. Jackals are everywhere. Why not decry the jackals on Wall Street who have impoverished America with their schemes?
It’s a shell game. The powers that be keep us distracted. As long as we are arguing with one another they can take their money and laugh all the way to the Bank. Pun intended.Hope you have a good fourth, Tigger.
