Good takeoff on the conservative bird with a Presidential name!

The existence of Mallard Fillmore is a complete mystery to me. Never mind it’s feckless and risible political extremism – it’s just plain NOT funny at all. At least, not in the way it means to be.

Trolling the Mallard Fillmore daily strip was less fun than I’d thought it would be. The wingnuts posting there genuinely think it’s funny; stirring up trouble among a bunch of sad and lonely people there wasn’t such a great idea.

I read both Mallard Fillmore and Tom the Dancing Bug, both have their unfunny moments, neither are influential enough to change my opinion on anything. In general both are amusing.

Besides disagreeing with most of what the MF strip is all about, I find it a wast of good art talent. The artist can obviously draw well but chooses to go with the same expression each day (looking at the reader with a cynical tip of the eye), and the liberals he portrays are just the fluffy, air-headed end of the spectrum.

The irony is that Bruce Tinsley (the MF artist) probably owes much of his income to Garry Trudeau. Some papers have Doonesbury on the editorial page instead of the comics page. They then need a conservative strip to avoid seeming like they have a liberal bias, so they stick Mallard Fillmore there too.
