For 50 years or so, the garage had enough work to support two mechanics — Sarge & Hack. Then, they hired Slim, and Rover even helped out occasionally. Is Slim the only employee on staff now? That sounds like mismanagent by Clovia. Maybe Skeezix needs to come back and run the place?

Thanks for the reminder, Slim, I need to get to work, too.

Considering Sarge and Hack were (if I remember correctly) people Skeezix served with in WWII, and at least one was obviously older than Skeezix, I would hope that somewhere along the line they retired and Clovia hired new mechanics that we just haven’t seen—although the new hires I do recall didn’t go very well. Seems to me that one was a tyrant who actually fired Slim after he made three mistakes, and one was a tow-truck driver who was involved in a shady outside enterprise.I’d hate to think Slim and Clovia were the only people on staff who had keys.

I apologize, but I need to say that I am missing Dr. Herb. His part of this story arc was very entertaining. Slim as a stand-alone character is unfortunately not turning out to be as enjoyable as I had hoped. I am hoping for Dr. Herb’s return, or perhaps a new story arc, or perhaps even Clovia’s return. Also, it would be a delight if Joel and Rufus showed up.

If he will read today’s “Arlo and Janis,” he may find out that it’s not as bad as he thought.

I really have loved GA for decades. But it seems to me that Slim is getting stupider and stupider as time progresses! This level of stupid is just not believable and believable characters is what’s always set GA apart.

@ Ken – I fail to see the humor in portraying an adult character to have the mindset and functional abilities of a 5 year old. Portraying him as a bit dim and slow witted but lovable just the same could be amusing. Portraying him as total imbecile is not.

That would depend on which country the vehicle is manufactured in.

If South Korea, as late as 1987 (I’ve seen Ponys and marginally-updated Stellars of that model-year in Canada — the last sold in North America), from India as late as 2005
