like in the movie Idiocracy, where the dumbing down of society was hastened by the fact that the best scientists , instead of finding a cancer cure, were more involved and better paid for finding a cure for baldness and maintaining erections for just under 4 hours
And then the gist of the comic, which IS funny, even if tragic, is that people spend money on things which make them money. Also people spend money on vanity while sometimes ignoring the long-term benefits they are losing.-Chronic treatments for illnesses pay better than one time treatments.-Much money is being spent to gain an understanding of the basic structure of human biology. Some of this understanding is suggesting new ways to cure old diseases.-Better imaging helps — you can find, handle, treat.Robotic surgery helps — it can precisely treat without needing years to train a doctor. Developed properly, every pharmacy and health clinic would have equipment to undo illnesses without the need for a trained physician on hand.Remote medicine helps — people in remote areas can be tested, treated and cured. Much of the grunt work can be done by computer programs and equipment. (just don’t make them mad at you)Stem cell creation and replacements helps. Nanotechnology helps — imagine being able to remove the nucleus of individual cancer cells or repair the damaged DNA causing the cancer in the first place.-It is interesting that the human body has parts which search for cancerous cells and kills them all the time. Cancers happen when that mechanism fails. Fixing that failure should cure the problem. Understanding how to fix it is worth spending nearly as much as is spent on baldness and erectile dysfunction medications.-There is always hope. We all benefit if we can cure our personal diseases. -(Some freakazoids worry about overpopulation caused by not dying horrible deaths, but they are missing the big picture: people would feel less pressure to reproduce if they knew they had plenty of time to wait.)-Perhaps the Wizard will reconsider.
