I remember my dad always turning up the radio when they played Elvis’ Blue Suede Shoes and jiving with me….driving myself, older brother and younger sister to teen dances and hanging around till the band played Blue Suede Shoes, taking the time to jive with me and my sister and then coming back to get us when the dance was over.

When Clay Aiken wore blue suede shoes and sang the song a la Elvis Presley in Toronto in 2005, I knew my dad would have made sure God gave him a front row seat.

I remember if Grandpa was in a REALLY good mood after church, he’d put the coffee table on the couch and polka you around the room. He very rarely did it but it’s one of my favorite memories of him.

Everyone is an idiot except you and me and I’m beginning to have some doubt about you. Sounds ok to me.

Getting up must have exhausted him – he went straight back to bed.

How appropriate that the next comic on my list is “Fox Trot.” Or does anyone still know what that means?

I was not conscious of the Village People’s “YMCA” when it first came out, but heard it many times in the early 2000’s, when we took the older grandkids to a skating rink that was open to the little ones on Wednesday mornings. Now when I hear it, I go nuts, waving my arms and hollering “YMCA!” at the proper place. My daughter put the two younger girls on YouTube, dancing to “YMCA.” Of course, we think they’re a hoot.

Our newspaper omitted the first two panels. I wish they wouldn’t do this! I know it relates to $$, but surely they could economize some other way.

I JUST NOW REMEMBERED something from my childhood! What a sweet memory! When I was a little girl, my daddy and I would sing the words to “Buffalo Girl” and he would take me in his arms and dance with me!

My dad didn’t like to dance (though he willingly gave shoulder rides!) but I still love the Luther Vandross song “Dance With My Father Again”…tissues required…

I used to dance with my son when he was little. He would stand on my feet and I would dance him around the floor. Lots of fun, and he (at 36) still remembers it.

My father is a big music lover. He taugh himself how to play the guitar and the trumpet. Both of which he has mastered. Allthough we were raised listening primarily to calypso and salsa, as children, he shared all kinds of music and he taught us how to appreciate classical pieces. He was a great tongo dancer as well.
