The KAOS reference was already covered, so I hurried to find something Get Smart that wasn’t… =Many too many great choices in that show reference wise to pick that fast….
The real question is whether Luann will graduate high school before Brad and Toni marry.^Perhaps Brad and Toni will be in their “senior” years, by then…. (XD)
Nothing like all-out panic to induce calm and sanity. That should work until about the first hour of senior year! (Or, as the PC crowd now says, fourth year—as in, “Luann is a rising fourth-year.” Odd; she does not look like a “year” to me.)
It’s easy to underestimate Greg’s drawing abilities because of his simplified style — but that’s what’s needed for the newspapers now. For those who know what to look for and appreciate, he actually has some mad skills.
A little bit Jeckle, a little bit Hyde… a little bit country, and a little bit rock and roll. But hey! That’s what happens when you’re leaking a bit of estrogen out of your transmission case.
Right, we are now all wondering whether in the spring Luann and friends will actually be making plans for their lives post-graduation, or whether this will be their senior year “Groundhog Day”-style, to be followed by another senior year, and another one after that. Unless Greg Evans is in fact really looking for a chance to exit the strip in 2014 and move on to something else, the latter possibility seems to be the more likely one.
That would have been a great choice, but I was trying to do it fast…and to go along with what you’ve said, I could have said more than one model of planner and more than one price, to include 99, 86, Agent 13, Jaime (Hymie), and… what was the Chief’s number? Tell you what… I’ll do a whole commercial later, and even include references to get Smart Again, and also include that sit com that Don Adams starred in, “Check It Out”, and of course “Gadget”….=Also was wanting to put the “Trapper Keeper” reference in there, since it was supposed to be for a back to school thing with both the T.K. and the term “Get Smart”… although I don’t know what that has to do with school…Lol!….
I think just about everybody does that with “Vice” these days… remembers Don and not Phillip… ha ha!=Incidentally, both released albums, with D.J.s single “Heartbeat” having that funny video where he flashed back to a war and throwing that kid in the bunker to save him from the attacks, and looking for that girl with the cameo of Paul Schaeffer from (“Late Nigtht”, etc.)…- And P.M.T.s single “Just The Way I Planned It”… well…. wasn’t as successful as he planned it…. ha ha!
You know, looking back, “Vice” really did have a huge imact….that show had a lot of people with cameo appearances and contributing songs, including Phil Collins…among others….
Well, it would have gone well as a Trapper John reference, but I really was going with a “back to school” thing, and wanted to combine Trapper Keeper with "Smart’…. see, there was this tradition with Trapper Keepers for everyone… especially around here… it was the epitome of back to school gear… it was the thing that made kids not mind going back, so much… well, that and the clothes thing….
“I thought she was a senior last year, so I will not be surprised at the end of summer 2014, when Luann declares the next year is her senior year (and the year after that and the year after that). ">It was mentioned several times last year that she was a junior. If memory serves she was a sophomore for several years before that, so I believe she was a junior for only one year our time.
Evans has done far more panels on you than me. Everytime he has Knute dressed as a tranny with heavy make-up and lipstick he’s ripping on you^^Donny, he had Knute wear women’s clothing by mistake ONCE, and has never had him in makeup… what strip are YOU reading???
I was a bit confused about the best show of the 80’s thread. I didn’t remember any good shows from that time period. Then it hit me. A super fantastic show started in 1987. The only good show Fox ever aired that wasn’t a cartoon. “Married…With Children.” My all time favorite show.
Would you believe you could have said “Smart Planners: Our organizers will keep your papers in C.O.N.T.R.O.L….and you can get our deluxe set for the price of 86 dollars and 99 cents!”?^^Apparently, Jay Blue “missed it by THAT much!”
The Chief’s number was “Q” (He was an agent before they had number); his code name was Harold Clark, owner of the Pontiac Greeting card company (Smart’s cover was as a greeting card salesman), also, you forgot 13’s predecessor , agent 44…. while 13 would whine and complain/ get angry at being locked into clocks and furniture, 44 would just CRY. ps. I loved Screen Test
“You know, looking back, “Vice” really did have a huge imact….that show had a lot of people with cameo appearances and contributing songs, including Phil Collins…among others….”
It (Miami Vice) was the first place I saw Bruce Willis playing a rather abusive husband/arms dealer, secretly working for the CIA to get arms to the “right people.” In the end, his wife had had enough and blew him away, right in front of the court house.
Hmmm… maybe everything will be all right re Quill and Love…Mind you – I DO NOT WANT QUILL TO BE KILLED IN SOME KIND OF WEIRD PLANE CRASH.I want him around for all of the wonderful story arcs that will come to pass.
“We have a few of them, too – my wife was the greatest fan of the two of us for Miami Vice. Since they played so much contemporary music on the show, I used to kid her that , instead of Miami Vice, they should have called it “MTV Cops.” :-)”
Which is, of course, precisely how, (as rumor has it), the show got started. Brandon Tartikoff, pres. of NBC Entertainment Div. wrote “MTV Cops” on a memo… They enlisted Anthony Yerkovich (of Hill St. Blues fame) and Michael Mann, , and the rest is history.
> First Quill, is not boring.z-z-z-z-z-z-z….>> And second, how would being boring be considered a “crime”? A fault, perhaps, but a “crime”?>My saying it was a “crime” was in response to the posting that’ Quill’s “only crime [sic] is that he is not Gunther”. It was in that sense that I said his “crime” is rather that he is boring. As for his not being Gunther, that is neither a crime nor a fault – on the contrary, it’s his most appealing feature, by far.
And pretty much all of the stock (non featured) music. I think they did give him a cameo in one season where he played the musician at a wedding.
I’ve purchased some of the classic “featured” music over time in MP3. They really made the music mesh well with the action One of my favorites is a cover of the Ace Frehley hit “In the Night.” Played when Crocket is driving his family home from a safe house (thinking a threat against him is lifted) when Tubbs realizes they have the wrong man. The music is all about Tubbs & Gina racing to Crocket’s home in the fake Daytona Spider, while Crocket calmly pulls into his driveway. Unbeknownst to him, the assassin is waiting in his living room. The music cuts abruptly at the least “…somewhere in the night….” to the sound of some of the most wicked machine gun fire I’ve ever heard. The actor playing the asassin, Jim Zubiena was a champion competitive pistol shooter and the shooting tech. advisor for the show.
The other of my favorites is the Phil Collins hit “In the Air… Tonight” from the pilot episode.
I do not think he want to see an end to Luann “any more that the rest of us.” ^And to add to that, there’s another factor to consider: the “Sally Forth” effect…
All the music was outstanding on that show and the episodes never got tiring. Which remins me of another 80’s big hair and dance show- “dance fever” with Danny Tario(sp?)
“The events may happen close together if, and only if, Luann stays a senor for as many years (our time) that she was a junior. Sorry to disappoint all of you wanting a quick wedding, but this is going to be a loooong engagement. There are too many good story lines for Mr.Evans to marry them off quickly.”>Oh, good. I disagree with you again. I was questioning my own judgement there for a second.(just kidding)I do disagree though. I think the coming year Luann time will be the same as our time for the first time ever. Then on to the college years.
Such a wealth of star power on Get Smart: Angelique Pettyjohn, Tom Poston,Regis PhilbinJulie Newmar, Vincent Price, Don RicklesCarol Burnett, Ernest Borgnine, Ted Knight, Leonard Nimoy, Jamie Farr, Dana Elcar (of McGyver Fame), Robert Culp, Gordon Jump, Jamie Farr, Conrad Janis, Buddy Hackett, of course Alice Ghostley, James Cann, and a wealth of others….
No-one has mentioned the SAT…this is Major stress time for high-school seniors…sorry, Luann, but senior year is one Big year for stress (e.g. picking the right college which can affect your whole life)…and you’re no-where Near the amount of stress energy that you’re going to feel during this year! But, I am also looking forward to all of the fun of you and your friends’ (not too sure about Quill at this point) senior year… (insert your own memories here, hope they were mostly good)… ;)
Triva Quiz: What was the specific event in the show for which that song was played?
