I know- not easy to come up with ideas for a comic regularly and I find my mind works better for solving problems than being funny. I tried to add cartoons to the PTA newsletters when I was editor for two of them. Much easier to draw than to think of something funny. When Simpsons wanted suggestion for new characters I drew myself as a detective who combined Jessica (Murder She Wrote) with Baretta because I took my cockatoo everywhere on my shoulder.
I find writing itself not hard- but yes, getting the initial idea is the tough part. At least on these two features John gets to worry about that. But I find being a writer myself helps with the drawing. Being an amateur actor also comes in handy. It’s all about bringing characters to life.

Homework during summer? Is this a summer rerun or do they have school year round?

School just let out, so the kids are reminiscing about school strips from last year. Or something like that.
