What about Charles Edward Ives? And George Crumb, Conlon Nancarrow, Harry Partch, John Cage, Samuel Barber, Leonard Bernstein, Morton Feldman and Philip Glass? And George Gershwin, of course. Don’t forget great american composers :)
I notice that after Chopin, Bach and Mozart, all the names are in alphabetical order. She probably only knew those three names, and the rest is just a list she has memorised. I wonder how long that took her.
Eddie Izzard’s Emmy award winning “Dress to Kill” has a great segment on Arnold Dorsey changing his name. The entire show is laugh out loud funny many times over. Netflix it if you haven’t seen it!
Does she EVER stop looking for arguments or a fight? And when I was that age, if I could name all those composers – I would have been taken on the road or the circus! Ha.
At the time this strip was written, it was common to see different spellings of Tchaikovsky’s name. I owned several music books that spelled it “Tchaikovsky,” “Chaikowsky,” or “Tchaikowsky” respectively. Guess that’s why I never saw his name on a spelling test. :-)
I like Beethoven and all those other composers that Lucy mentioned and country and rock as well as Englebert Humperdiinck (the singer) I have great taste, eh y’all!!!!…Lucy’s smart huh!!!!..who likes Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture you know the one with the cannons and the guns??!!!..I do I have it on record good taste I have eh??!!!!!

I can understand why Arnold Dorsey might want to change his name. I don’t understand why he would change it to Engelbert Humperdinck.

And they probably never had bubble gum cards either.

Indeed. There are just too many great composers, I guess.

They’re all equally boring to Beethoven.

Lucy just stop. You’ll never outwit Schoeder when it comes to music.

When I was in junior high my dirty minded friends and I thought “Humperdinck” was the funniest name ever.Fortunately, I outgrew that phase.

When the local opera company put on Hansel and Gretel some people were confused. “That guy writes operas too?”

I don’t think the “Tschaikowsky” variant of Tchaikovsky is correct. Interestingly, all the other composer’s names are spelled correctly.

I like Bach’s “Air on the G String” It’s a bit slow but really a beautiful piece of music all the same.

She left out my favorite, Dmitri Shostakovich… but maybe his name would have taken up the whole word balloon ;)

Lucy only mentioned the composers that she did because Schulz only had four panels to work with.

Wow. Lucy bothered to learn THAT many composer names?? I doubt many music majors could list that many off the top of their heads! Touche Lucy, Touche.
