Duke: Texas is seceding? Earl: Well, there's a big online petition for it... The organizers want us to push the idea on the Hill. Personally, I think it'd be great for the country. Duke: It might have been. It's too late now... Earl: Why too late? Duke: The Bushes have already spread to other states. Earl: But the Perrys haven't! This could contain them!

Obviously written before the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Remedial Kindergarten opened its doors to reveal the research center (an empty room).

Actually, is this the longest time Duke has been gainfully employed? Usually by this time, he’s running out the back door with all the cash…

It might not work, but it’s worth a try. The thought of Perrys spreading throughout our great country – I just threw up a little in my mouth.

Ahem:If Texas were to leave the Union, it would take1) Six of the top 20 cities by population2) 3 of the top 20 ports3) The second highest GDP – about the same as India or Canada4) The second highest population5) 25 percent of the oil and gas reserves6) The highest amount of renewable energy (wind power) of any state7) A huge chunk of the aerospace, medical, and financial industries8) ALL the good salsa
And Ryan – Texas gets back 94 cents on each dollar of taxes paid – you owe us!
Bye, y’all.

I always liked the H. Beam Piper Story “A Planet For Texans” The whole state Out-Migrated to another Planet, taking “every precious stone” of the Alamo with them.
The story has some good ideas on how to control Politicians, too!

Let me know if they make it. I’ll move there immediately.

If Texas left the union: it would improve the national infant mortality rate, the lower the national poverty rate, raise the per capita income, improve the national average for high school graduation and college education, improve the quality of public school textbooks nationwide, and immensely reduce the power of nearly every conservative political group. It would also create another petro-state on our southern border, and a new country to visit. It might even attract a lot of conservatives to move there, thus making the U.S. even more liberal as well as better-educated. I am sure there are many other ways in which Texas measures lower than the national average, and so would raise the national average by leaving. The death penalty (which, by the way, I am not necessarily against) is really striking. Since 2010 there have been 135 executions in the United States, 56 of them in Texas or 41%. There have been 68 execution, 50% of the total, in a group of 8 other states, including by own Virginia. Of those eight, seven are in the south, only Ohio standing out. The other 41 states combined have only accounted for 11 executions in the same period of 2010-2013. Since the death penalty was reinstated in 1976, the South has accounted for 81% of all U.S. executions, with Texas, Virginia, and Oklahoma accounting for the more than half of all U.S. executions 1976-2013.

There’s a possibility Texas State Senator Wendy Davis that filibustered for 11 hrs on restricting abortion rights may run for Governor. If enough Texans come out to vote for her maybe they can beat back Republican attempts to turning Texas into a Taliban state. Eventually they’ll become more of a purple state as the minority population grows there. The biggest obstacle is overcoming Republican attempts on blocking voters rights among those deemed to most likely vote for a Democrat.

…and the folks in Austin will have to move to the US, providing more Democratic voters for the rest of us!

“I’m aggressively “pro-abortion” (a woman owns her own body and nobody else does), but if the decision to electively terminate a pregnancy – not on the basis of medical necessity but simply because she doesn’t want to go through confinement – can’t be made before she’s 20 weeks along…”~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please correct your statement, “I’m aggressively “pro-abortion " The correct terminology is “pro-choice.”

We’ll give you the Bushes and Perry in return for our independence. Then close our northern border and open our southern border and we’ll be a solid Democratic country in no time. Sounds like a good deal to this Texan.

You socialists need other people’s money to spend. You would soon miss Texas.
scsurfer over 11 years ago
Hey Ken, you’re missing it, bro: You keep the Bushes and the Perry’s, and we get to send you the rest of the Bushes (and maybe the Cheney’s?) Say wouldn’t Jeb be a good first pres for you? How’s that sound? How ’bout if we throw in Ok.? Mexico might even throw in Juarez. . .

Don’t give Texas away, sell it to the Chinese or Mexico. With the proceeds we can payoff the deficit.

The economy did rather well under Bush, but your hero, Obama, is destroying it as fast as he can. While most illegal immigrants are otherwise decent people, many add significantly to the Texas criminal statistics.

The Texas state constitution allows Texas to split into as many as five states already if it ever wanted to.

They won’t be happy until they can split into 26 million states, each heavily armed.

I know of at least 2 women who were totally surprised when they gave birth to full-term infants. Some women do not know they are pregnant for various reasons. Luckily these gals were quite happy, although shocked when it happened.

Where’s this petition? I want to sign it! (I hope one doesn’t have to be a Texan to sign.)

Socialism is not defined as a system where the government spends more and taxes more than conservatives would, it is defined as a system where the means of production, distribution and exchange are owned collectively, generally by the state through nationalisation at least initially. There hasn’t been a genuinely socialist government in the UK apart from 1945-51, and the vast majority of industries they nationalised were subsequently denationalised in the 1980s. The main exception is the NHS, which for all its faults is much loved by us Brits, who cannot comprehend a civilised country in which people do not have access to all necessary healthcare free at the point of need. The Labour Party dropped even the aspiration to nationalise from its constitution in the late 1990s.
