tem·pes·tu·ous [tem-pes-choo-uhs] adjective1. characterized by or subject to tempests: the tempestuous ocean.2. of the nature of or resembling a tempest: a tempestuous wind.3. tumultuous; turbulent: a tempestuous period in history.
Living in Florida, have been through quite a few hurricanes and tropical storms. They help replenish the aquifers so we do not have as many sinkholes. If only the winds were not so damaging. Lost quite a few trees over the past few years.
When Ike hit Galveston/Houston, I stayed in Dallas for a few days. There was plenty of damage and deaths in coastal areas.Took a while for some areas to recover and some small businesses didn’t reopen. We may be about due for another, unfortunately.
The only weather related disaster here was forest fires caused by lightning. But that took out a whole Fire Department – one guy (19 deaths of good young men who were all experts trained in fighting that kind of fire. That whole small town is in mourning.
It was a lovely area where many of us like to spend much of the summer (higher into the mountains, so usually cooler, with lovely pine forests).
Quite a few hurricanes. Floyd dropped a tree on the corner of our house, and my then 6 year-old daughter was trapped visiting her girl friend at the house across the street. (Two long driveways, and they had a swale in front of their house.) After it stopped raining, I could wave to her, but the water was still to deep and fast for her to come home.
Thanks for including us in today’s edition! We are proud of the work we did and continue to do for people affected by Hurricane Sandy as well as the daily disaster that is hunger in America.

No hurricanes in the Midwest. We just have monster tornados that seem to get worse as the years roll by. I was in a tornado once as a child and it is a scary place to be. My heart goes out to all those afflicted by Sandy and all the other monsters that have struck.
How depressing! What is this – the weather channel !? This is the place to forget your troubles. Although, it does sound like all of you own all your disasters, tornadoes, hurricanes, typhoons, fires —like a badge of honor.“Remember back in ’38? We went through a big one, Sonny!”

Yes, 3 weeks after moving to VA, Hurricane Isabel came right through the area. I figured she was just welcoming me to Virginia from New York…. :P
