A martial artist is shown during various stages in his training and then fighting a large monster.
"The more you swear in training, the less you bleed in battle." -Armed Forces Motto
That motto hung on the door to our Basic Training Company entrance back at Fort Dix 1972. I had forgotten it till Zen brought it back to my memory.Thank youThis is Very, Very true. And folks wonder why at 61 why I do Cross Fit three times a week.
Loosing the Greatest Generation is sad. Fewer and fewer every day. I did see that video great stuff. Now the Korean Vets are going. Been some great stories of that forgotten conflict on Military Channel lately.Grunt Marines facing T34/85 tanks with rifles and grenades and surviving. Chosin Reservoir. There greatest quote. “Are you retreating?” “No, we are advancing in the opposite direction.” Fort Campbell ehhh?“I wanna be an Airborne Ranger“Live a life of blood, guts and danger.”“All the way….. gotta go…… gotta be”“AIRBORNE….RANGER!!!!”“Good for you………good for me.”“Airborne………Ranger.”I still can hear that drill Sergeant singing that as we “jogged” on the 12 mile run in full equipment.
Very good Veteran and mr Sherman! Working out is a good thing. It also clears the mind.
I’d be working out here in my main use room right now, but I’m expecting service on the wiring to my pool scrubber sometime today so I have to stay fully dressed (and it’s 103F right now so I prefer less).
So true. Once wet just stayed wet and it wasn’t even raining. Then it would rain and I never got dry. You seen those wet cat pictures? My look exactly. The only breeze might be your buddy passing gas. It was still a breeze to be appreciated.Match that with the Flak jacket. Instant portable sauna. No electricity required. Just put on, zip up and breath. Instant sweating. My brother however was in Iraq (both wars) and he described 124 highs. So dry you could feel the moisture leaving your body. Had cold coffee just set out in the sun on a rock. Warm in a couple of minutes.
I saw Tom Brokaw speak about the greatest generation a few years ago. He was good. But his reflection on “greatest generation” Americans was awe-inspiring. He talked about how teenage males in the late 30s/40s were being drafted into the service and how they thought they had it easy, because they had three meals a day and new boots. I’m honored by those men who gave it all. I’m proud of this country for who we are and better yet who we strive to be. The greatest country in the history of civilization.

Chopping Ice by Paul Flentge is a great story about chopping wood and carrying water. Awesome read!
