This is a true story. I lived for a long time in Sedona, Arizona, across the street from a sculptor who worked in many mediums. I looked out into his front yard which bore life size, painted concrete statues of a baby giraffe, an ostrich. several other fauna and large metal sculptures. It was fun to watch the touristas drive by, come to a screeching halt, back up and take a second look.At Christmas, he decorated the sculptures with lights. To my knowledge, he’s still there and you can go to his website to see some of his work His name is Mike Meadow(s) .Been a lot of years but he was a good friend and an interesting neighbor.
A sculptor named Patrick Amiot, who lives in a town about 10 miles west of here, uses scrap metal and cast-off objects to create large, whimsical figures.
He displays them temporarily in neighbor’s yards, all up and down the street….they love it….some even end up buying them.
Some of his pieces have been placed in public spaces….and you can also see a few of his huge, funny cows standing among the real herds in local fields…
Rusty Boy is not mocking the sculpture; he is applauding a shining example of art by accident. Jerome has truly captured the spirit of era; it is the artist creativity which is to be examined not the art nor the artfulness or skillfulness, not the reflection of nature or majesty of The Lord, it is the lens which the hand moved through, it is one among many, not many viewing the One. What Rusty Boy finds amusing is the lack of hair and no ears. Not a serious critic of today’s Free Formed Expressionism, still no hair is an obvious omission and considered as a willful omission than its absence demonstrates a lack of intensity and the featurelessness of the effect. Anyway, Rusty Boy is meeting Ms Millie at the park, they have convened a symposium on poop placement and earth sculpting; wouldn’t want to be late.
bev, I have a particular attraction to the old classics and an aversion to the newer releases. Last night, TCM had a bit of a Bogi marathon going on. At least I saw a fair bit of The Big Sleep before finally passing out. It was followed by The Caine Mutiny and I missed all but the beginning.
bev, I did have to work today. And I get up at 4am CT. I’m glad to have seen what I did see. Unlike some other nights, insomnia was not an issue last night.
@Susan, Kitsch is fun too. I just like to do my pieces to fit the décor of the rooms I’m doing. I planned the future Monet piece for my master bath, but if I decide to sell this house I’ll have to reverse decorate (neutralize).
I am only thinking out loud right now because I bought the house thinking to spend the rest of my life here. I love the weather and people here in AZ even when I struggle with pool maintenance (like now- new motor installed, but time clock not working; I will buy that at Lowes and do it myself!)
BEV, I love the dog house! Fit for royalty. That lady is just jealous because she knows that Prince Mua has his own cat chalet. The storm has passed now, but I don’t know where the fire was. It was near by though, because I could smell smoke and hear the building alarm from a nearby building. I was on the phone with my mother, so I didn’t tell her what was happening. She worries.

Their grandson was eaten by this trans-dimensional cardboard monster. There’s a reason we never see kids on Ballard Street.

So the work in the strip reminded me of of Patrick’s…. a little bit, anyway.
New York art connoisseurs, of course, sneer as it all as cutesy West Coast kitsch, and not art at all….
and we know it’s not serious …. but hey, we like it….
LOL

It’s amazing the things you can do with an ordinary cardboard box.

Actually Key Largo was shown between the 2 and I slept right through it. Oh well, I saw it recently anyway from my own DVD collection.
