remember when we all got mik for 5cents at lunch? and it came in a waxed carton? We used to smash those cartons down flat, sit on them and zip down the slide until it was waxed and polished and fast like this – until one kid broke his arm and we weren’t allowed to do in any more. Spoil sport Principal. I never liked that kid either.
We certainly had slides, but I don’t know anyone who’d be using PAM spray, which was not only new (it came out in 1961), but also very expensive at the time.
When I was teaching the big slide in our playground had oxidized so the kids got stuck halfway down. I never thought of Pam, but Turtle Wax and a bit of elbow grease worked wonders. Those kids were hitting warp 1 now, and won me some hero points. :)
We got milk in those cartons when I was in school too, but not only did we not have any sliding boards, the school had no playground at all! There was no room for one. I went to a big, inner-city school in Philadelphia. At lunch time when we went outside, we weren’t allowed to do anything except stand around and talk.

If I wasn’t so old, I’d try that.I’ve reached the point where I don’t bounce anymore.

When I was in school, milk came in bottles with a cardboard disk on top and it was a penny for white milk and two cents for chocolate. Yeah, I’m old.

In ‘64/’65, I went to a one-room schoolhouse. I don’t remember getting milk – don’t think there was any way to keep it cold.

we used the waxed paper bread sacks to slick the slide. Worked great- we would mark landing spots.

Saran wrap had not come along yet so we used the wax paper our lunchtime sandwich had been wrapped in. We used the clean side that had no mayo on it.

I didn’t think Pam was that old. Of course, being a kid I wouldn’t have noticed it anyway!

Too bad Red punctured his swimming pool last week. He needs a soft spot to land!

Wax paper for speed on the metal slide in my back yard. In the summer, we ran a garden hose at the top and let the water cool things down.

We always used Kraft brand waxed paper. It worked really well.

We used wax paper. Our mom would always be yelling at us to stop using it because it was exspensive. Lots of fun!
