Doesn’t look like Wally cleaned it up at all. ;-; Ouch, what a rough ‘home’ to come back to. Poor Holly. Wally, catch up to her quickly! I think Veteran might be right that she may seek refuge in the tower. If she does, maybe Linda will show Wally where it is, if she even remembers after all this.
Holly: “There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home.”Sound of heels clicking 3 times.Long silence.“There’s no place like the Security holding cell. There’s no place like…”
Anyone want to take bets on Wally suddenly pouncing on Holly and saying “I KNEW you’d come back here!” ? After all, he’s already proven he can run faster than she can.
I think Wally caught her before because she wanted him to catch her. I’m not so sure she wants him to catch her, now, even if she needs him to catch her. ;-;
Lets lay off Wally here, he’s had a bit of a row. Lucky he’s not dead! Can’t say the same for alot other endtowners…and their families. Hopefully JJ will fare worse than Allgood down the line. TSers must be laughing their covered butts off if they can see this.
TSOJ’s post reminded me about a more abridged version of Teddy’s quote from the original Red Dawn:“Tis a far better thing to dare mighty deeds rather than take up ranks with weak masses who know neither victory or defeat.”
I know. This is a surprise coming-home party, and all the mess is a ditto-illusion. Suddenly, it will disappear, and it’s all clean and wallpapered and there’s a hot tub and a pool table, and Wally’s left the toilet seat down.
It may be that part of the next story line involves Wally coming to terms with being in Endtown. I suspect that he lost touch with everything by the end and didn’t really connect with anything until he found Holly. Now his life is somewhat Hollycentric and he’s never gotten around to finding work or doing much to connect beyond that. It may be that Holly’s absence traumatized him to the point where he was not capable of doing anything. That is going to have to change and I suspect that a mouse sized foot print on his butt may be involved.
Y’know, this is the first time Holly’s seen that her home was trashed. Remember, she was picked up at Maude’s boarding house…and, also, remember how little information about what was going on down in Endtown was shared with those up at the Trial…
There is criticism then there is constructive criticism. All depends how you put it. I’ve read alot of comic strips, both paper and internet as well as single panel and editorial, and ill give Aaron right up there in the top three of my favourites. I myself, if I didn’t like his strip I would never read it let alone, buy his stuff and support him as best I can. He’s the only one I thought buying merchandise or bidding.keep it up Aaron!
As disappointing as it is to see the house is still a shambles, we must be fair and remember that Wally was just as depressed about being separated from Holly, as she was about being detained and bullied on live television by Allgood for being able to make cheese in these post-apocalyptic times. If not for the rioting, Wally would have still sat quietly in a dark corner of the house listening to the trial, waiting for Holly to come home the entire time. Now Holly (after being put through Hell) hurries home to find her little slice of Heaven has been ransacked.Holly is known for helping people through their hard times. The question now is…Who can help her?
Last night I stayed up to see this. I wrote something that made NO sense. This happens when I try to write when half -asleep.I’m going to try to make sure I know what I’m writing before I make a go at it.
Just a note to say my Endtown volumes 3 and 4 arrived yesterday. Slightly larger than the the first two and a bit thicker, but that’s from placing two strips per page instead of three (the panels are the same size as the first two volumes, which makes the decision to cut the number of panels down and add extra pages a bit curious). In all, they’re very attractive and all four are placed prominently atop a bookcase at home.
True, but when the writer’s work is so consistently good,it’s easy to take it for granted and deem the work and its author “perfect”. That’s what fans do.
Criticism can be a good thing BUT in the end every critic has to admit that even the most poorly drawn, unimaginative and uninspired strip shows more guts and effort than most of the criticism one reads, my own included.
Jayce_C, I think the reason for most of the negative comment you’ve gotten is that you repeatedly state that you’re not going to continue reading Endtown and then most decidedly do the exact opposite as evidenced by your continued postings every day..I’ll agree with the others here and state that I think Aaron does a bang-up job of creating an entire universe and allowing us a glimpse inside. While yes, I would like the current arc to move a little faster, I certainly appreciate the additional side jaunts that keep me coming back every day; if for nothing else, than to see what Mr. Neathery’s come up with next.
So now you are a critic who knows better. Are you published? Do you have credentials?A degree in Literature like a PHD?I think you are just trying to stir things up. You’re the child who says “I can’t look” while peeking through your fingers. You tell a story better than this.PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOU MOUTH IS.Your opinions are welcome as we do have the right to voice them. Just as much as we have to right to throw shots at you.Keep on peeking. You know you can’t stop or turn away. And do this kind of work suffering from a very severe leg infection that can kill you if it gets out of control. Maybe that would make you happy if that happened but the rest of us would be sad. When you become famous as an author and win the Pulitzer Prize then maybe you would be acceptable as giving an opinion. Right now you just sound silly. The Minion (Veteran) has spoken. Now fire crap at me if you dare. I love a good battle of words. Your wits may be a challenge to a bum like me but I will surprise you.TTFN.
You ought to it could improve your chances. You see you avoid the issue. You want to complain as it gets you attention. Folks fire back so you get the satisfaction of a response. Point to your side. But complain all you want. The story will continue.Keep on peeking. Like I said. You can’t stop. But when you accuse the author of “incredibly lazy writing” now you cross a line to believing you are better as YOU would not do that by insinuation. I will defend him on that. I have never met the man but wish I could. He left Houston before I could get there just to shake his hand for his work.
Is asking someone to stop being a baby valid argument? Not to be straight up rude, though it is, I just always wonder why some people come to a post apocalyptic tale and complain when it gets dark. It’s like watching a zombie movie and going, “Aw man, I didn’t expect anyone to get bit.” I understand this arc is depressing. This is good, it stirs emotions, just like the loving scenes with Holly and Wally stirred emotions, Flask’s backstory stirred emotions, the comedic bits stirred emotions, etc. Don’t down on the flavor if it makes you feel, enjoy the ride, enjoy the fact that some images and text can make you desire to respond. If it’s not for you, it’s not for you, if you don’t like the feeling it gives you, don’t read, but accept that it does make you feel a certain way.
Thin skin? No, I just don’t care for stupidity. Complaining about depressive things during the end of the world, to me, is stupid. You should have phrased your original criticism better if you were saying your dislike was based on the use of AM as a plot device. You didn’t mention anything about him, you just said you didn’t know how long you’d be able to keep reading if it was going to continue to be depressing. I do agree in a sense that I’m not a fan of the use of an omnipotent figure to further the plot, but AM’s character is older than the comic itself, and I’m actually curious to see how it’s all going to tie together. On one hand, you could view AM’s gift of power to Jacob as a cop out, Jacob’s government position could have been secured a host of other ways where AM wasn’t involved. On the other hand, the fact that an omnipotent character has gone out of his way to help secure that power for Jacob interests me. Why is AM invested, what does he know that we don’t? He seems torn about the whole deal. Is AM just being whimsical and going with it for the sake of going with it, or is he aware of a serious problem that could be rectified down the line, should Jacob hold the town as his? Maybe it’s a plot device, but it still interests me, just in a different way.
FYIAaron Marx goes back to the strips Mr. Neathery drew while in College under the Albert series. He was and has been the one single link between it all.You are just upset he calls the first name Aaron and that is Neathery’s first name so you say the author has put himself in the story. Its the first name that is important. It means in Hebrew “High exalted one” “All powerful” “All knowing”.His original origin is never stated. He was always with Albert and Gustine who knew him very well as troublesome meddler. A Shakespeare Puck character so to say. In and out at will. He was married once. Was President of the Country elected by a 99percent margin. Then tried to blow up the sun due to complaints it was too hot. He got Sparkplug to build the weapon. Read it you will understand the character better. He is a part not just of Endtown but the Universe of Endtown the author has created. Endtown, Albert, The Free Energy, Vol 1,2,3,4 all short stories in this Universe he created. The only constant person is Aaron Marx. When Aaron met Prof Mallard he knew him on sight and what that devise was. This goes deeper than just the story you are seeing. There are more connections and histories we have never been shown. An open ended story that can go anywhere. All you are seeing is one story in a Universe with untold numbers. Look at it that way. Sure it may be depressing but if you need help I know a good VA shrink that can help you. Or you can say “Thank God that’s not me.” and leave it at that.Oh don’t read Dr. Zivago, Tale of Two Cities, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, Les Miserables. These are all depressing in their own way. Read Heavenly Nostrils no depression there.
Endtown will not be everybody’s choice of daily reading. The point of this comments board is so people can air their views, and as long as they are civil and not abusive then it should welcome all input. I have no problem with that. Some of the negative comments reflect readers’ distress that a ‘magical’ solution’ seemed to have presented itself at what seemed to be the end of a gripping socio-political romantic thriller. And that there was so much unhappiness and unpleasantness.Endtown has very few certainties, but at least I can give you some to work with (passed to me from the author himself): 1) This is a long story, and we are not at the end.2) He has crafted the storyline carefully, thoughtfully and in detail. Everything has a purpose, and nothing was cobbled together for a quick fix.3) He is aware there have been terrible injustices, and we will need to hang on for the long haul to find out which of these are addressed and how; rest assured they have not been overlooked. With that in mind, you may decide to keep going on this marathon, if that is your taste, or you may opt out and know it is still running somewhere. Endtown is not going to be tied up in a neat bow any time soon. But it’s all laid out to a great master plan, and with each new week our eyes are opened to one more piece of its enormous scope.
I’ve always had concerns about Aaron Marx, particularly in the middle of the “Countdown” story arc where he swooped in and snatched the transporter from harm, though in the end I learned that that bit of theater had more to it than was obvious at first, and Marx’s desire to be with Flask and realization that he couldn’t be with her.“Not all of us get happy endings.. Its not as if we’re owed them.. Some find love.. and others.. Well… We all have our duties to perform..”I loved that part.Marx is really intriguing me with his current involvement with Jake. At first I couldn’t imagine him doing something like this, and when he appeared he made it obvious that he was not happy at being involved, and yet he’s convinced that it is somehow for the best. In a way I like Marx like that, omnipotent but not free. It makes for a more interesting character.
“If there was no criticism in the world then nobody would ever have any reason to ever improve at anything.”Then why do you whine so terribly when the same criticism is aimed back at you? Just think of us as your own personal, dedicated review board. And pretend that you’ll improve due to the increased “positive” feedback.
I wonder how glass would be replaced in Endtown. They probably don’t have the Personal Transporter’s glass regeneration tech. Maybe Wally has moved to another apartment and just abandoned the old one.
Mac, I think Jacob’s fate may be worse than Algood’s. It would’ve been gratifying to see Ye Bucktoothed Tyrant & Slinky Sidekick pumped full of bullets, but that’d indicate lazy story telling skills on Neathery’s part, and though I didn’t much care for AM’s appearance, I’ll wait and see what transpires each day. Jacob will get what’s coming to him, and in ways he didn’t know how, when, or where.
