Good morning, Mr. Peanut! We watched Batman, and the Monkees. In earlier years, we watched ‘Cheyenne, with that hot Clint Walker, and ’Sugarfoot’, with Will Hutchins.

Good morning, Leaky… and all!

We watched Topper, too…. but dinner was HOURS before any TV shows we watched.

Another show that was so goofy you had to laugh was.

Once again, as he was two days ago, Burl is answering “Verl” when Joy is talking.

Is this a Freudian slip?Did he marry the wrong sister?

I know Verl is a big Burl fan…. well, OK, she’s just big in general….

Leaky…We loved “the People’s Choice”…and Cleo.

I remember December Bride. Bea was also in Peticoat Junction. But why would Burl want the Newly Wed Game to be quiet?

Maybe he was hoping to hear some hints.

I used to watch My Little Maggie and Life With Elizabeth at lunch time when I was in grade school.

Leaky … of course I remember My Little Margie…and Gale Storm also had the Gale Storm Show.

And on Saturday mornings there was Fury.

X … why? Cos someone was hogging the TV?

Fury and My Friend Flicka I always watched the horse ones. My oldest sister liked RATT Patrol. I think my brother watched anything but chores had to be done before any TV. After school no TV we had to play outside. Sat was for tv but only a couple hrs.

When my kids were really little we had no TV. Parents had one from before my HS days but after marriage out first one was an old one of theirs. My X was a welder and spoke poor English (we were married in Holy Name Cathedral – in Spanish). I had thought it would be an advantage for my children to know 2 languages (did not work). At least my own Spanish is still fluent and I keep it up with good literature once a year. By the last house, we had one TV in the kitchen corner (for everyone to watch from the table) and one in my bedroom (just for me).

Nobody’s mentioned the Life of Riley, the Real McCoys or the real old Perry Mason’s yet…the PMs are in reruns now on ME tv.

My first TV was in grade school and HS days (Dad knocked a hole in wall between kitchen and our “den” (a spare room used to watch TV). Back then my fav was “Lucky Strike Hit Parade” and I also liked the foreign films on the UHF channels (but had to set the resolution to roll in order to read sub-titles) LOL!

As I have mentioned before, I always thought Lucy was over-rated (although I sort of identified when I married the Cuban too, but was annoyed that she never learned Spanish). Imogene Coca has only been forgotten because the tape method used by Desilu was better. I bought a series of Sid’s TV work to search for hers (they were great together). I never liked the “Honemooners” – too much like real life; Gleason was funnier as Reggie Van G or the bartender!

When I was little, only TV was black and white Zenith (with tubes) in the living room. When we finally got one in the kitchen, watched the news at dinner.

December Bride also had Col. Potter. How about The Range Rider? Loved Amos and Andy. The Kingfish.

Circus Boy. My Friend Flicka. Maverick. Have Gun Will Travel. The Cisco Kid.

A little trivia here…………….mikie was originally cast as Dr.Smith on Lost in Space but he declined the part.

Oh, good grief, I should’ve read ALL of the comments before I commented. So many of you remember all those wonderful shows! I remember almost all of the ones mentioned, and I only got to watch them in the summers when I’d visit relatives here in the States! >sigh< Those were the days when there was something decent to watch on the idiot lantern. Nowadays almost everything is pure rubbish.

How about the Rebel, Steve McQueen. We would be watching that show and often my Dad would say that guy needs a spanking. Didn’t care for the smart-alecky behavior at all.

In early TV, I always hear Julia Childe as the 1st cooking show. The earlier one I watched was confined to Chicago area but was much better than she was (and included French Pastries and cake décor) – The Pope School. I still sometimes use the old cookbook (first one I bought myself- back in 1950). I since bought another copy to save for the kids, but the old one has all my markups (and spills and burns).

While others were occupied with the boob tube I’d be busy improving my mind reading Dondi over and over again.

How I dreamed of a kind benefactor such as Mrs. McGowan.

Purple Sky … they were only daytime shows because you were too young to have seen their original prime time (evening) runs!

Their gentle story lines and innocent humor made them comforting to adults and “safe” for children….so many of them had a 20 to 50 year revival in “syndication”…i.e. sold to local channels, for airing late at night, and in the daytime.

Purple SkyRe: TopperGeorge & Marian Kirby and their dog Neal were killed in an avalanche. Neal was a St Bernard (search and rescue) with a drinking problem (didn’t have thumbs so he couldn’t open his Brandy cask). The Kirbys returned to haunt their old house and only Topper could see or hear them.

I loved Topper too, but it was a group of movies (there was no series show that I remember with those characters). My GC seems to keep freezing up (because it sits open while I do other stuff). @Leaky, I also do not like Lucy because her Cuban (apparently) treated her OK, but she still made no attempt to learn his language and the writing and performances on that show were NOTHING like Show of Shows (which I really liked). Just as later I loved the more topical TR3 That was the week that was and Laugh In and Rowen and Martin. If you never watched Show of Shows (especially the many routines about foreign films) you can’t understand JUST how much better another comedienne of the same timeframe was. Only reason Lucy survived for now is that Ricky was smart enough to buy into a better recording system for Desilu.
