yeh, I just LOVE it when the thing shuts down in the middle of a scanning process and says the dreaded ‘see assistant’ and no assistant is visible.makes me want to say: “ARRRRGGH!”
yep, I hate those things and refuse to use them in the few stores that still have them. I actually saw a situation where someone bought a good amount of groceries, baged them up and then just gathered them up and walked out of the store and never pay for a one of them. Because they were scanned, the alarm was disabled so until the next person (me) tried to start their check out did the person that was SUPPOSED to be watching notice that the guy never paid.
The bitter irony of these self checkouts is you don’t get a discount. You have to scan everything yourself & bag all your groceries with no assistance. In the end they don’t pass any savings onto you & they don’t need as many cashiers. I’ll always boycott self checkouts & stand in line a few extra minutes.
It’s interesting that so many people have so many bad experiences with self serve scanners. I use them regularly, especially for smaller loads, and have had very few problems. As a rule, they get me out of the store much faster than the human cashiers do. But, of course, that’s too boring for discussion here. It’s more entertaining to pretend the worst experiences are typical.

Deja vu … it’s much funnier in a comic than real life.
