next, he will be describing cassette tapes, black circle thing that contained music when a needle was applied, cars with a clutch pedal, tvs that were pieces of furniture, lunch boxes made from metal.
It’s more fun when you weigh more than the other person so you can torment them by not letting them down…and now we know why Maria’s dad wants to play on the teeter-totter.
A few months ago, the window on my driver’s side door became frozen shut. Inspection was coming up and they can fail you for that. Took it to the dealer, who said it would be between 4 and 5 hundred to fix, with parts they’d have to order. When I drove away, with only days to go before inspection, I tried the button again on a whim. Whatever they did when looking at the door to get their estimate had already cleared up the problem (where’s some wood to knock?) Passed inspection.
I know that our brilliant minds chose a phonograph record to send out into space to represent this planet to other intelligent life in the universe. This was done years ago, when it first began the VOYAGE, but still . . . ;-D
DAZZ: IMHO, the phonograph record was selected because about any civilization, presuming they had any idea that there was something in the grooves, could come up with the technology to listen to the audio. Recovering video would be a tad problematical, but the LP format can store quite a bit. Meantime, tape was probably the next opportunity, and a lot harder to “read”, and probably not long-lasting enough. CD’s or DVD’s, while potentially longer-lived, require some serious hardware and the laser – maybe not known – are a little strange, IMHO, compared to the LP.
(And may have been seriously rare at the time.)
‘Course, there’s always the assumption that the recipient will just assume it’s a wall decoration….
