Well, the important thing is that Snoopy is safe.

Schulz always did like to play with funny words. He must have found pinking shears amusing (can’t blame him) and just had to work it in!

Pinking shears can be ruined in a fire. Today’s shears are made with plastic covered handles, that can melt and become useless. Too bad the Van Gogh was lost. :-(

When you sew a seam, you trim the raw edges of the seam with pinking shears. The zig zag shape of the shears creates a “tooth” effect on the raw edges of the seam (inside of the garment) which help preventh the edges from fraying and the seam from opening. Everyone who sews and most who do crafts have pinking shears!

If I recall correctly, Snoopy eventually replaces the Van Gogh with an Andrew Wyeth. . .

No, actually the pinking shears were melted; everything else was literally burnt to a crisp. An absolute crisp!

Today’s pinking shears may have plastic handles, but back in the 60’s, I’m pretty sure most were all metal, simply painting the handles black. It would have to be a pretty hot fire to melt them.

I went to Walmart yesterday and browsed through the sewing section. Yep, they still sell pinking shears.

Our local newspaper dropped Peanuts along with several other good comics. I finally got fed up and quit subscribing to the newspaper. Here and in one other site I can read all my favourite comics.

House fires can get extremely hot, hot enough to melt coins and warp gun barrels. A pinking shears wouldn’t stand a chance.
