Mornin’, Stewie. I think that this particular luau will be topping the list of ‘horrible’.

Good Heavens that IS a pig peeking over the hedge. Do you suppose the hams were relatives? Well Crustwood doesn’t have an animal control Officer ever since that unfortunate business with the sheep and Jerry. She quit and went screaming into the night.

They LOVE their Spam in Hawai’i, so I’m surprised that the Pennys aren’t slicing up some of that stuff for their ‘luau’ since it — and they — are so bloody cheap. Aloha, indeed!

Mmmm…. canned ham piled with last Easter’s clearance marshmallows… all burnt beyond recognition.

Lu and Al would be proud.

RUN, cute little Find-it pig! You’re not safe near the Pennys OR the Shemps. Hurry! Hide your hams.

Good morning back to you, Stewie, and to all your little friends, too!

    And welcome back Marg!

Purple…. around here Spam … being a brand name and having some sort of dubious fame…. has gotten more expensive than ham.. at least the cheap ham the Pennys would buy.

    Joy says it’s Dubuque… but I’m sure it’s DuBigLots.

Never heard of a Dubuque, is that a fancy name for the cheap ham that’s mostly fat? I didn’t know the Penny’s knew a different language. Maybe they looked up the word so you would think they are smart. I am also guessing this is a private party, since there are no other guests. I don’t blame them, more ham for each of them. I see Jerry isn’t there either..

Wonder if they took the Dubuque hams out of the can. If so that is a unique way to glaze them. Yum!

Canned ham roasting over a charcoal fire that Burl probably used 2 cans of starter fluid to get rolling………mmmmmm……wonder what other “Hawaiin” delicasies are on the menu?…….tofu shrimp?……“Honolulu Carp”?…….and let’s not forget “Coconut du chocolate” (Mounds Bars) for dessert!

Good hams 50 years ago. "The Dubuque Packing Company was a former meat packing company that operated under a variety of names in Dubuque, Iowa from 1891 until 2001. It was recognized for the quality of its products, and in the 1950s it became one of the largest employers in the city. The company was widely known in the community as “The Pack.” The company had the fleur-de-lis as its logo and trademark."

“fleur-de-lis” sounds like something they might like.“The Pack” is how they eat.

Never threw (or attended) a Luau. We roasted a whole suckling pig many times (the first down in Cuba with my husband’s friends and family 3 months after our wedding (in Holy Name Cathedral- in Spanish). I took photos as the guys had the fun of chasing and slaughtering the pig (B&W unfortunately).

Later I built a 3′×3′ oven of firebrick in our back yard so we could roast our own (no bakeries in the area would do it). It was fun and delicious, but I tore down the BBQ oven and built the waterfall after I divorced him.

@CloverShirley I hadn’t noticed the 10 days in the future dates until you pointed them out yesterday. Julie does odd things often, actually. Including not keeping panels the same in two panelled strips.

Poi is an acquired taste, and I like it best when mixed with something. I have quite enjoyed several luaus when vacationing in Hawaii. Sure they are touristy, but the entertainment has always been great, and, well, I’m in Hawaii!

@ElGuapo it’s right at the end of the fire pit, but also looks like that little piggy peeking over the fence.

I appear to be the only Dubuquer here! This strip appeared in the Dubuque Telegraph Herald for a few months, then was dumped. I think instead of the “Dinette Set” it was renamed “Too Close to Home”. As a Dubuquer , I gotta ask, where do they make Dubuque Canned Ham? Not here! A Hormel plant somewhere in MN, I bet

Poi? Is it something like Hummus (mashed chickpeas)? I must admit I have never had it, and the only Hummus I have tasted is one I made myself from a recipe (OK, but never will be a fav of mine).
