Teacher: Class, I know you're probably upset that I am assigning homework this first week of school... Teacher:..but as a teacher, it is always my job to be preparing you for college, even at this early age. Heart: I hate college already.

Hopefully, colleges will accept the results of the funding tests as proof you can learn stuff by rote.

Why does everyone assume you will go to college? I didn’t go. Couldn’t afford it and I didn’t want to be burdened with student loans. And these days, a college education is no guarantee you’ll get a good job. Even if you do, there’s no guarantee you’ll keep it.

Stupid. That is NOT a teacher’s job. This teacher’s job is to teach basic American education and reasonably ensure her students learn widely accepted fundamental skills, etc. She should be trying to position them for sucess in whatever worthy vocational path they may later pursue, not specifically college education. Besides, even if they are all going to college, that is still not the be-all and end-all. College is just another fligth of stairs in the climb to whatever life the student is headed for.

I’d like to think that the hippie-yippie-zippie days are over for good, and that colleges and universities are starting to come around to actually teaching people useful knowledge. I hope for it, anyway.
