I’m thinking co-assistants …. or if only one will win as “the Apprentice”, then two weeks of grueling agony between Lu and Tiff over this, as I’m sure they are bound to find out, somehow…

Luann’s wost nightmare is if she ends up HAVING TO work together with Tiff as partners
JayBluE about 11 years ago
I really do like Tiffany and all (as an interesting, integral part of the strip), but I know she can be a bit of a schemer… I was so tempted to dub her the “Shady in red” here, but Tiff is probably just going for a job… how she got to this particular one, is a curiosity, though, to say the least….
JayBluE about 11 years ago
True! And, to combine what you and Sara are saying, she could have been… “pushed” into falling off that balcony, by dear ol’ Daddy… – In these days, as Sting and the Police said, “Truth Hits Everybody”..

Or to twist the lyrics to that Herb Alpert song: “This Guy’s Not In Love With You”…

Good question!

I don’t know if Mr. Really-Big-Chin is the principal or headmaster, or maybe just a personnel/human resources manager, but I doubt in any case that he will be impressed by Ms. Farrell’s mostly irrelevant resumé. On the other hand, she did somehow beat Luann to the interview, and since it’s only an after-school program assistantship maybe the youngish guy will be swayed by her allure and hire her on the spot, to Luann’s great consternation….
EricPost about 11 years ago
But Tiffany seems to have had the get up and go to find the job on her own, while we know Luann just lazily went to have others do the legwork for her.

Could Tiff get a job-in San Francisco—on Mason and O’Farrell?
You mean an evening job? In San Francisco?Probably not….
JayBluE about 11 years ago
Ha ha ha! Yeah, it’s just that Herb and the TJB are a favorite of mine! And I’m one of those vinyl collectors who “ruin their collection” by actually playing them, Lol!

After talking to Tiffany, Luann will appear that much better and be a shoe in for this job.

You’re Asking the WRONG Questions.
Ask Ms. Farrell Who Abe Lincoln was.

Well, she does act like one at times.

Wow… i didn’t know Luann was in Fort Wayne.
Argy.Bargy2 about 11 years ago
This is really sad. I thought we’d finally see some success for Luann, but we’re back to the summer again, where TIffany got into drama camp and Luann didn’t. Maybe they should just change the name of this comic to ‘Tiffany’, or ‘Anybody but Luann’ and be done with it.
Dragoncat about 11 years ago
Major Hollywood Film?I can’t believe how many times she has gotten away with calling “Eyes of Zeye” a major Hollywood film!It scored an “F”! It got shelved! It’s not even fit for a DVD!
Dragoncat about 11 years ago
I wonder if he is going to investigate further…and discover how and why her position as Miss Chamber of Commerce didn’t last a full year.
Argy.Bargy2 about 11 years ago
Apparently. The fact that Tiffany has never shown any interest in children before, or any apptitude for working with them, seems irrelevant to Evans. This reminds me of a mystery series I used to read; the main (female) character was always in jeopardy, always accused of doing things wrong, and had to spend as much time defending herself as she did solving the crime. I get so tired of a viewpoint character constantly having to be a punching bag and a victim. I’m going hunting for a new comic to follow now. Buh bye, all
RedSamRackham about 11 years ago
If this guy isn’t gay, Tiffany WILL get the job!
overtherainbow about 11 years ago
And I think Tiff got the drama camp billet just so she and Quill could have their showdown where Quill emphatically told her he has no interest in her. There didn’t seem to be much other point to the whole thing. Oh, and for Gunther to get another gig on his costuming resume.
JayBluE about 11 years ago
I think that’s supposed to be Paul Benedict.^If that’s the case, then if he’s a teacher, he can just paint the numbers and letters all over the place, like he did on the clips as the “painter” on Sesame Street… Or, if he’s the Principal, then, he’s certainly movin’ on up (his stint on the Jeffersons)!
angusdad about 11 years ago
Even if Tiff gets the job, she won’t stick with it because it’s not glamorous enough.
slsharris about 11 years ago
She doesn’t want children. She needs a bigger fan base.
Hey — what about Quill? School’s started…
JayBluE about 11 years ago
I like to call it “happy music,” because it picks me up when I’m feeling down. ^And interestingly, he is the “A” in A&M records. He and Jerry Moss started up the whole thing (though they’ve sold the company since then) and signed the Carpenters, and was responsible for getting Sergio Mendes and also the original “Brazil 66”… and is still going strong with his wife Lani, from that original lineup!– And for me, I call it “morning mood” music, because the instruments and arrangements have a bright, sunny, mellow “morning” sound, and whenever I look at the album covers, I think about the simplicity and warmness presented, in the photos, that are definitely not like today’s fare!– And speaking of more modern, if you haven’t already heard Herb’s work or the TJB from "Magic Man (79) to “Keep Your Eye On Me” (86), I’d recommend them, especially the “Bullish” and “Blow Your Own Horn” albums. They have some “updated” (for the 80s) sound, and are a far cry from mellow, but are very pleasant and listenable. I’d say more of a “Rush Hour Survival Kit” sort of relaxing… Most people would easily recognize “Rise” and “Diamonds” (featuring Janet Jackson and Lisa Keith) from him during this period, but he has quite a bit of other work that deserves a listen. His compilation CDs contain some of them.

Maybe this is where Jay will end up, after NBC throws him away again.

The only reason Tiffany is applying for this particular job is so that Greg Evans can continue to get revenge on her, which is one of his main sources of satisfaction in life, apparently. However, the fact is that Tiffany (unlike Luann) is actually the sort of ambitious go-getter who does seek out every opportunity to further her career and is willing to take even menial jobs to do so. Even though she says she doesn’t have any experience in working with children, the fact is that she has several times played the “Zeye” character at comic book shows, video game conventions, etc., and she has certainly interacted with hundreds of kids while playing that role. If she is at all interested in the job at Lincoln Elementary, it’s likely so that she will learn better how to communicate with that part of her eventual “audience”, an important skill for an actress. Luann, on the other hand, just wants the money. Mr. Jawbone therefore might be better off hiring Tiffany (sorry about that, Greg!).
JayBluE about 11 years ago
Oh, don’t get me wrong…. I don’t really worry about ruining my records, Lol! Especially since I find mine from used sources, but I also can acquire a clean, not used copy at times, as well…(I do have some that have a value to them, along with some picture discs and colored vinyl, and have very clean, unworn covers and playing surfaces, but for the most part, I buy them for playing…. I do use technics turntables with excellent weight adjustment systems, and one turntable I have has a magnetic drive instead of a belt… and I use “diamond tip” needles, as well… – Coincidentally,, I also record my records! I am planning to eventually get a transfer device from vinyl to CD to make copies of whole albums, but my other “penchant” is for cassettes! Especially the type IV and III blank tapes, whenever I can grab some… I usually do my blank tapes by individual songs according to mood and style though, as I use them for whatever time of day I’m travelling, and it helps when there are…. “unwanted conversations” to block out in public. Also good for just relaxing at home, or when I’m walking in the neighborhood, or when I can, I’ll even walk around the job with my Walkman..

The most interesting thing about Tiffany, to me, is what we don’t know, like her backstory.
Dconskjk about 11 years ago
Terrific. No, let Tiff have the job, they’ll eat her alive. But Tiff will just come away completely clueless of what the experience was to teach her.

Question: Since when does Tiffany need a job or has actually has had to work for anything????
sarafaye about 11 years ago
I am suddenly remembering a huge donation to drama camp. Is it possible Tiffany needs a job because she got cut off after a huge explainable expenditure on her parents’ credit card?
Argy.Bargy2 about 11 years ago

There is NO WAY that Tiffany is gonna get that job.

He’s retiring at the request (for the second time) of management, because management is afraid that they will lose younger viewers if they don’t switch to a younger host. That was the rationale when he first ‘retired’ in favor of Conan, and Jay’s show was rated number 1 in his time slot at that point. When Conan was brought on, the ratings dropped and kept dropping. So, in a failed effort to provide Conan with a strong lead-in, they brought Jay back as a 10 pm variety show. Except nobody wanted to watch variety shows at 10 pm, when typically other networks were carrying their hour long dramas (police shows and what). So the network decided to bring Jay back to the Tonight Show, and tried to convince Conan to go back to late night. That didn’t fly, but the network (and the important pundits in Hollywood and at that intellectual giant, TV Guide) all blamed the whole thing on Jay wanting his show back. Now, once again, Jay’s show has the number 1 rating in his time slot (yeah, all the intellectuals claim they watch Letterman, but the numbers don’t support it). And after the wonderful success that NBC expects of the Olympics (no comment), they expect that to provide a great lead in to Jimmy Fallon. The diffence is, Fallon appeals to a broader audience than Conan. So this time it may work. But Jay doesn’t really WANT to retire. This is what the network brain trust wants. And they’ve done such a great job with all the rest of their programming…..

If you read “Dark Side of the Horse”, today, Horace battles with an “earworm”. He went to call his doctor’s office, they naturally put him on hold, and… voila! ANOTHER earworm, courtesy of the “muzak” while he’s on hold…. LOL!

Xbox 360 and PS4 have the technology to burn and save MP3s, and I also have the capability of hooking them up to a stereo, as well… one can game and listen in full stereo sound…
JayBluE about 11 years ago
I used to be in the analog camp, myself… to me, there is a slight difference, in the same way that if you listen long enough, (without trying too hard to concentrate on it), in the same way your ear will pick up new and interesting layers to the sounds. So in the same way, to me, anyway, analog provides this… but it depends heavily on the recording process and there have been changes to instrument position and other factors during the recording and mixing process, so I’m back to appreciating both digital and analog….

As I recall, Tiffany tried to take over Luann’s library group once and give them beauty advice. Advising little kids to starve themselves thin and layer on lots of makeup did not go over well.

Anybody looking for a used 8-track recorder deck? I can even throw in a fair amount of tapes. You could be the 1st one on your block to burn your mp3s to 8-track. Yee Haw!

“Just because Tiffany is applying for the job does not mean she will get it.” The interviewer should be able to quickly discover the cavern distance between Luann’s qualifications and Tiffany’s “qualifications”… ;)

And doing some further research, I see what you’re saying about his personality. Yeah, definitely crossing him off of the list!
