Phil is now into black and white weird love movies on AMC kind of songs! He's an old people's love with my aunt. He's an old people from another planet love with your aunt!

The one act who was able to knock the Beatles off the charts: Dean Martin. With “Everybody Loves Somebody”.

Hey, Nancy- there’s nothing wrong with “old people love” as you put it. That kind of love had better survival rates.

Yep Sluggo, in fact all of us readers love Nancy’s aunt and I’d speculate that “old people from another planet” pretty much describes us, too!

You’re absolutely correct. AMC was once wonderful and where I found so many old films that I’d never seen before. TCM is now the old AMC and the one channel with no disturbing logo messing up the screen.
Also want to apologize for the whole group for the anti-Jewish comments toward you by TrueCanadianLiberal. That clown is a total jerk and insensitive clod. Can’t believe they weren’t removed. If that horse’s rectum is a LIb, you can have them.

“Shouldn’t Phil Fumble and Fritzi Ritz be more into the sounds of the 90s?”
Why? Is there an expiration date on good taste?
brklnbern about 11 years ago
Maybe, but unfortunately you have to go back at least to the 60’s to find any romantic tunes that are just that and not plain sleazy.

Youtube is where all the great songs of the past are today. Here are 3 Phil might be liking the way he feels now.Portrait of My Dreams by Steve Lawrence.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpanOeCkutY
The Way You Look Tonight by Eddie Fisherhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MliaQQaj9ukWhat an incredible version
And I’ll See You in My Dreams by Ray Conniffhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71AxeSb1Cn8

That could be a generalization. I am in the 40 range, and I appreciate songs from every decade… I also own copies of the songs that you mentioned. I am a vinyl collector, but also own mp3 and CD versions of songs… There are several acts today that I listen to, but I do feel that music is like a fine wine… the “aged” varieties are the ones I enjoy most……. Several of my 45s Are from Eddie Fisher, Dean Marin, the Three Suns, yet I was raised in the 70s with Poco, the Eagles, Heatwave, War, you name it…. I own music from many periods, and not just one… I do look at the modern music scene as dwindling, but it doesn’t mean I’m… “old” or "ignorant "about today’s music… – As far as Elvis, Beach Boys, etc, yes, some did proclaim it wasn’t music, but that is not the case for all … as a child of the seventies, my parents and family did not put down the different styles, and it wasn’t everybody from the older generations that did so, either.. And also, just where did those artists you mentioned (Train, Foo Fighters, etc.) get their inspiration?…. And “Sir Elton” contributed to “Lion King”, just as Phil Collins did “Tarzan”, but they are in no way acts of the 90s….

And Guy just featured an artist earlier this week who’s currently on the charts, as well as some others…

Meant to add also that though my favorite period of music is 66-89 (because of the ambience/feel of the music from the different genres), I don’t shut out music that was “before my time” nor blanketly condemn music from the nineties to today…. just the practices of an industry that seems to now put out music like a plastic factory… I so treasure the artists that still put human feel into the songs, in the depth of lyrics as well as the smart use of music to paint a picture, doing it with art and care, not to generate a hit for a corporation….

I’m of the Beatles generation, but I certainly like the Corrs (including Andrea’s and Sharon’s solo albums). On the other hand, wearing my singer’s hat, I like best the operettas of Emmerich Kálmán. (See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Djp_sPXiRmc for a delightful break-up song from 1924.)

No, I was addressing your statement that a person who doesn’t like the 90s is an old fogey who thinks like those in the Elvis era….– And as I stated earlier, Guy throws in music from today , as well .. check out earlier this week, and last week…. there’s more than meets the eye in things, including comic strips… – And, too, Phil and Fritzi are drawn to look “timeless”, but they are in their later years… Guy has done many things, including his work with the “Muppets” … his work is quality, and always reflects the times, but always recognizes the classics, as well… his work reflects a reach towards all ages….

To me you are a bully and thug who seems to take delight in disparaging the heartfelt comments of others, while at the same time constantly talking as though you are the possessor of all correct thinking. But that’s OK because none of us can control the thoughts or pronouncements of others. However calling someone else superJew is a bigoted statement, a concept that apparently escapes you.
Why mention of religion offends you is your own affair, but the comment you were responding to was very much in line with the theme of that days comic strip. Why not direct your comments to Guy, rather than attack someone who in no way was specifically addressing you. Or perhaps just state your own opinion and leave it those who read the comments to decide for themselves who is making more sense.

(Deleted in error, reposted- reply to your statement about “missing the point”- reposted for reference:)No, I was addressing your statement that a person who doesn’t like the 90s is an old fogey who thinks like those in the Elvis era….– And as I stated earlier, Guy throws in music from today , as well .. check out earlier this week, and last week…. there’s more than meets the eye in things, including comic strips… – And, too, Phil and Fritzi are drawn to look “timeless”, but they are in their later years… Guy has done many things, including his work with the “Muppets” and “Muppet Babies”… his work is quality, and always reflects the times, but always recognizes the classics, as well… his work reflects a reach towards all ages….

Gee, Susan, I was going to wish you a joyous Sukkot, but maybe I shouldn’t because someone might be offended…

(Response to your “Dated comics statement”:)Now you’re speaking to another issue… “Legacy comics” are a whole different matter than the art style and reference issues that you brought up….– But, even so, longevity does not equal… “old”… newer doesn’t always equal better, either… comics are quality because they are …. although some don’t get the appreciation they deserve by means of awards, some don’t get it by means of “reader numbers” (for what that is worth, is not always a good indicator, though, as many eyes may read it, but doesn’t get “recorded” by the convenience of a “corporate measurement system”), but those comics are still quality, no matter how old or new…
