Like Gilda Radner used to say, “You never know.” I was trying to decide between a Chevy and a Toyota. I bought the Chevy because I wanted to buy American. Turns out the Cy is made in Canada and the Ty in the US.
98% of the junk they buy is from another country. Especially from the dollar dump. The Twinkies and Hohos maybe from USA but who knows now days? Cars from here have parts made elsewhere so nothing is totally made here.. Too bad since people need jobs now..Good morning everyone
I’ve missed you Patty. And, I have my own fruitcake, er, Ford sitting outside. It’s so old that it predates the foreign car invasion. They used to make them so as a normal joe could work on his own car. Now you got to have at least a computer to find out what’s wrong. Hey, I have this Mac…..what kind of cable can I buy on Amazon to hook it up to my other car?
We make machinery for manufacturing cars in Detroit. Very good tax paying jobs. We can’t find enough skilled labor people to hire. Toyota doesn’t buy from us. Volkswagen doesn’t either. GM, Chrysler and Ford do. Yesterday was National Manufacturing Day. We should applaud good jobs and good work!
Take back RCA TV, to who? They haven’t been around for a couple decades. And they will have lost the receipt when they get there, but just bought it even though the tubes are all burned out from 1000s of hours of use.
BURL… Jetta is a German name plate and it’s made in either Germany, Slovakia or Mexico depending on model. It first came out in 1979. The German economy is better than ours right now…. but in the 90 when this comic is set, perhaps not.
When I had a regular job, I would buy a new car every 3-4 years (and just get the warranty for that time). I don’t like to work on cars or toilets – too dirty! (But I have cleaned sewer water from basements in the past, no more tall rubber boots for this gal!)Now I have a little 2004 Focus 5 door, long out of warranty. So far I have only had to get new main belt, battery and tires once on each. I try to take good care of things (that works for my body too)- never have much trouble with either. My eyesight could be better for driving and at night, but so far I just need both mirrors when tested, considering Lasik for one eye improvement.
It’s pretty funny this ignorant strip used VW as its example to bash American cars. Then Jetta’s reliability is rated much lower than the Malibu and Fusion by Consumer Reports. JD Power and Associates ranks VW 28th in long-term reliability, far below Ford and Chevy (13 and 12th).

VW Jetta S, much worse than average reliability in CR. Black dot.

We haven’t seen John in a while, but I’ll bet he is a VW man. Maybe that’s why she wants a Jetta, to get his attention.
