My kids think the fun is more in the getting than the eating. We end up giving at least half of it away because it’ll sit in the bag until the next Halloween if we don’t.
A child with a bag of candy is like a dragon with a horde of gold. They know each piece- at least, my 3 do! And we do tell the kids before-hand we will take taxes, but only a couple things each on the first night, before they’ve catalogued stuff- and not their favourites, of course.
They know the 100 Grands are mine. This year they lucked out and didn’t get any, the sneaks :-)
Sharing is one thing, but taking it out of your kid’s candy bag behind their back is something else altogether . . . it’s called stealing — and no decent parent in their right mind should be teaching their kid(s) that kind of a lesson!

Not sure they ever did teach him that one. If they did, it didn’t take.

Actions speak louder than words. They’re teaching him to steal.

I just collected my DAD tax on the loot. I also have a Granddad tax when the Grandkids bring their loot over.

Fifth panel: John: “I wish you would show as much concern about your schoolwork as you do to a bag of Halloween candy!”
