Try living in the parts of Chicagoland near O’Hare Field. Or across the street from Midway. There are times when I can’t hear the radio two feet away from me on my desk….

Try living on an aircraft carrier. When I was on the Independence our berthing compartment was on the O3 level right under the flight deck. The arresting gear was directly above us (where the planes catch the wire when they land). When the planes would land the whole berthing compartment would shake. Sometimes paint chips would fall out of the overhead. I did get used to it. Got so that when it got quiet I would wake up.

Hah! I missed the landing gear wheel in the bottom left frame until I re-read it.

I checked lots of things when selecting this home (because I lived in the last over 30 years and expect this to be my last) so it is out of flood zones, high crime areas, freeway noise (routes were only projected when I bought – now done) and airline routes. I also avoided closeness to mountains (critters like scorpions) and horse properties that encourage more mosquitos and flies). I had a whole page of wish list too. I always shop this way. I have the big open plan I wanted, nice size pool and have filled in the garden mostly with self maintaining plants and trees.

    I’m not kidding.

I lived near Logan airport,Boston MA, in a section called East Boston but not near the runways. If you lived in the Beachmont section or in Winthrop then you’d get the airplanes. I lived near a highway also and you get used to the noise.
