Now that Honey Huan’s essentially been retired and Duke been relegated to a minor character, Trff Bmzklfrpz is important because if he leaves, Duke’s role in this strip is essentially over. Duke never appears these days without Trff, does he?

I’ve met Iraqis who are now pining for Saddam, simpsonfan. Back then, you could rely on going to the market and returning home in one piece, you see.

As others have pointed out, please don’t presume to judge people without any knowledge of the facts.

I’d recommend reading Riverbend as a starting point…but only as a starting point.

We turned the US into a fascist police state, so who are we to complain?

it seems to me that politics and freedom are opposites. Politicians want control of the populace. The dems(for the most part) want control of taxes and the right to tax more, and control over firearms(which keeps men freer). The reps want all to march to the status quo, to attend the same church, wear ties and not do anything different then they tell us to.

Iceland manages to keep society going without changes to the constitution and the making of new laws, why can’t we?

And some people despised him as soon as they saw him. I wonder why..As for the republicans, you forgot to mention that they are desperate to control women’s bodies.

Democracy is very hard to transplant. It has to grow in place over centuries. British democracy started with Magna Carta in 1215 and took some torturous, vicious turns on the way to its current state. United States democracy has the same roots. France went back and forth several times before it took hold.

On the other hand, there is Japan.

Yes, under this electoral voting system, although you voted for Bubba, Elmer acquired more votes and since this system revels in “winner-take-all” you did in fact (unwittingly) help elect Elmer. CONGRADULATIONS, you did your duty becoming a functioning part of the problem.

While at The Defense Language Institute studying Russian, I talked to my teachers. They were all anti-communist, but did not democracy. They wanted the tsar’s family back in power. This was 1963.

No complaints about reruns!? Tunisia uprisings, Egypt under military dictatorship, Libya chaos, and let’s extend things to Russian oligarchy and the whole USA about to collapse … the whole WORLD’s a rerun! (This has been my daily rant. Thank you.)

Hitler was elected in a Democracy, Mursi was, anyone know if Libya has a government? Of course, in the past having free, democratic elections, the Will of the People in charge, didn’t mean the U.S. would support you in any way. Palestine, Iran being two examples (yes, even that theocracy has free elections, even if you don’t like it).

Even with Democracy you can elect Hitler. Or someone headed that way. Or someone who wants to be that way. Or someone who’s just bad at the job and your stuck with your stupid choice.

Actually, Bush intended to sit on Iraq for a few years until they got their act together, just like the US sat on Germany after WWII and turned it from a Nazi hell hole into a free European country. Obama dropped the ball, leaving the Iraqi’s to their old bad habits.

Democracy is difficult. The human race is tracing a long arc of social evolution and the path is difficult. Look at our country for example. It’s still been less than 100 years since women won the right to vote and be declared, in essence, full citizens, having been chattel from the outset. Most of the world’s people are emotionally infantile and believe in ancient myths and superstitions. We have a Supreme Court Justice who believes the devil is a real live person and half the population who thinks there were really people named Adam and Eve, talking snakes, and women springing into being from men’s ribs. Science has brought us a long way from ignorance but there’s still a lot of work to be done for the human race to leave its childhood and enter full maturity, and in some places it seems like certain segments are still living in the infancy of the race. Seeing the infantilism of our own democracy at this moment in history, is it any wonder at all that even more primitive cultures like those found in the Middle East, with no tradition of free elections are struggling towards stable societies? I think the dictum is pretty clear right now as we destroy our environment: grow up or die (or live in a terrible, inescapable state of instability and violence).

Nice fantasy. Bush destroyed every functioning Irawi institution, finished the country as a nation state, and then signed the agreement promising withdrawal by December 2011. Obama tried hard to hang on to the de facto colony and only withdrew once the Iraqi puppet government refused to grant any further shielding to American troops from prosecution for war crimes.
