The little kids did a good job with the flags. But only 4 of them? That’s rather feeble round-the-world “spirit”. And didn’t Quill have over 90 more forms to fill out before he could enter the country? I’m looking forward to his explanation of why he dropped out of school in Oz with only 2 months left before graduation.

There sure are a lot of real and fictional “Bulldog” High School/College teams out there…. – Some fictional schools have some really unique team names (Wombats, Seals, Fighting Dolphins, etc.)… some real life schools have some unique names (U of California Banana Slugs, Connecticut College Camels, Stetson Hatters, etc.)…..
I would say that it is coming to an end simply because lots of open ends are closing (ie: Brads wedding plans) and they have started rerunning this as Luann Againn
Real HUNGRY, ANGRY Bulldogs to get the “Dancers” REALLY MOTIVATED? Nah.
Turning all the Flags on the Wall UPSIDE DOWN to REFLECT the CURRENT WORLD State of Economic Crisis? No, too Political.
Wait, WAIT, I GOT IT! Pig’s Blood! PIg’s Blood Falling from the Ceiling on the Prom Queen! No, NO THAT’S been DONE. To DEATH, and Besides PETA would Object.
Isn’t the major thing that Quill is suddenly here on Luann’s arm, in Pittsville? This is the senior year, Toni and Brad are getting married, the couples have resolved, although Tiffany is alone in terms of romance, and there are a lot of other story lines still waiting to be resolved. All this other stuff about flags, or equipment, or whatever seems pretty off-the-point, but maybe that’s just me.
Mordock… in a reply to my comment to you a few days ago, you stated, " I just DON’T Like the Direction Greg Evans is taking His Intellectual Property, Gunther." I find that very interesting, and I would like to hear your perspective about where you feel he is taking the Gunther character. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++To me, Gunther has seemed to be growing far LESS “wimpy” (using your word) over the last several years. Although some of his actions are not particularly “macho” (the hand clasping last week for instance), he has to me seemingly had more of a backbone than before. He has a gorgeous girlfriend, and while he is rather gun-shy with her in many regards, she is his first real attempt at dating, and he simply has a sharper learning curve than some to overcome before he is successful. Unfortunately for him, Rosa is likely to only be a learning experience for him and not his future spouse. But, that is not such an uncommon occurrence. Additionally, I think Gunther has wisely given up on Luann, as she has made it abundantly clear that (at least right now) she does not think of Gunther in any sort of romantic way. For him to continue to pine over Luann would, to me, be more “wimpy” rather than what he has done instead…. moving on. And, he has moved on while still being a good friend with Luann… something that is often not all that damn easy to do with a girl who had but rejected your heart. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++So, I would like to hear more about your reasons for disliking the direction being established for Gunther. There may be (likely are) things I have not remembered about his story arc that may very well be pertinent. And, thank you, by the way, for commenting back to me originally.
Moordock: I read Pipe Tobacco’s discussion about why you dislike the direction that the Gunther character is going. I was curious, too, about what you meant, because I see Gunther as someone now more willing to stand up for people he cares about (Rosa) when he thinks they are being hurt. I also see him as someone who is not ashamed of the fact that he has interests (like designing and crafting clothes) that might invite bullying or at least rejection from others. Long story short: Gunther is a more interesting and complex character than many of the more one-dimensional characters (like Knute has become).
" Tiff/Gunther in that equation there will be some potential fighting"-You reminded me of Gunther’s propensity for taking off his clothes in public places. re: library.Maybe he is there now while decorations are going up. Does Quill know about this?
Mordock… thank you for the reply. In regards to your comment:+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++“Make Him a REAL Nerd. Nerds build computers. They Collect Marvel Comics from the early 60’s. They fly Radio Helicopters in 3-D flight. They do Not, I REPEAT, DO NOT Make Dresses”+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++I do agree with you about the above. While the costume making/dress making focus for Gunther is a little odd, it is “ok”. But, like you, I would rather see Gunther more traditionally “nerdy” like you suggest. It would seem to me to offer more chances for humor than the somewhat cringe inducing jokes related to the various sewing arcs. In regards to your comment:+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ “I’d like to see MORE stories of Gunther using His Intellect to Solve problems and LESS Stories of Him being a Wimp.”+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++I would agree with you in the above as well! I had not really thought about it much, but you are right that Gunther is not really shown as being particularly intelligent by his actions in the comic lately (probably the closest thing to even suggesting his intelligence lately has been the Einstein poster on his wall). +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Very, very interesting. I guess now after hearing your comments, I AM siding more with your ideas of Gunther being portrayed as TOO WIMPY. But, I would still suggest his hand wringing gestures, and his looking forward to having a temporary “sibling” in Quill are not signs of a WIMP, but more that of a shy kid who happens to also be an only child. I can understand how an only kid could grow up wishing for sibling interactions, especially in how they are often portrayed on television and in film. Real life sibling interactions may not always be so exciting, but even then, I bet that the few such interactions he sees would still make him want to (and look forward to) such a facsimile of siblinghood.
“First of all, if you look at my avatar you will note that during the boy’s (”BOY"?!!?) first kiss he is in shock and terror. Luann initiated the kiss….,"
Uh NO, Don, She DIDN’T. If Memory Serves, it was Gunther Who Initiated" the First Kiss. It was the Story Line where the G-Man helped Lu with her homework. Later, Lu encouraged Gunther to go after what he wants in life NOT Realizing that what he REALLY wanted was Her. Gunther Impulsively, Kissed Her FIRST. BUT, Lu LIKED it so much She kissed Him back, PASSIONATELY. That look of “Terror” was ACTUALLY a look of SHOCK on Gunther’s Face due to Lu’s “Unexpected” Return Kiss.
Here I am, late again! Where are all of the flags the children were making? These are too big, theirs were much smaller and in greater quantity. I’d like to see Tiff’s face in tomorrow’s strip as she realizes Quill is back. Hopefully, she’ll remember that Quill Never wanted to be an item with Her. He looks kind of bland today, but is holding Luann’s hand rather tightly as to show all the world that Luann is his girlfriend…and the boomerang is back… ;)
> There is only one character besides Luann elated to see him back. Nancy.>Happy as those two ladies are (sorry, Frank), neither one of them is even half as ecstatic about Quill’s return as Gunther is.

What’s missing is the picture of Quills mother. . you know the one Gunther hung on his bedroom wall, in the bikini.

Luann’s face is larger than Quill’s. Maybe she is puffed up with THrill. I like that he is holding her hand and leading the way.
